Before you start
Before starting collage and entering news stories into the site, you need to make sure you
have two important applications on your computer system.
1.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
If you do not have IE 6.0 or higher installed on your computer (you can check
your version by going to
Help > About Internet Explorer
in the program window)
you can download the latest IE version from Microsoft’s website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.mspx
2.
Java
Along with IE, you need to have the latest Java version installed on your
computer as well.
Go to
http://www.java.com
and in the middle of the
screen, you should see an orange icon saying
Download
Now
. Click the icon and you’ll be directed to another
website where you can download and/or install the Java
client on your computer.
After you have both IE and Java upgraded to their latest version, you’re ready to start
working with collage.

Navigating to Contribution
Depending on your user access, you might not have access to everything you see in this
tutorial. Rest assured you will have access to everywhere you are directed to go to.
1.
Navigation Bar
The main navigation bar in collage will have
Home
,
Site
,
Content
, etc. Click on
the tab labeled
Content
to start moving through collage.
2.
Navigation Submenus
Once you are in the
Content
menu
(Content in the Navigation menu will be
highlighted), you want to click on the
down arrow next to

to
activate the drop-down menu.
From this drop-down menu, select the option
Contribution
. This will take you to
the Contribution section of collage.
Navigate to your college (or department) to start editing, adding, or deleting pages. All
of the colleges have their names shortened to just the first letters (i.e. College of Letters
& Science: cls) to help the software run efficiently.
