WORKSHOPS

Pruning Shrubs and Trees and Spring Garden Prep

Saturday, February 18th, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., University Center, Room 261

Learn the art and science of pruning dormant trees and shrubs. We will cover different pruning styles and cuts for overall plant safety and health. If weather permits, we will go outside to apply theories to trees and shrubs on the UW-Whitewater campus. If time permits, we will cover general garden practices for landscape plants, lawns, and vegetable gardens to get ready for the upcoming growing season.

Meet Your Instructor: Chrissy Wen, UW-Extension Horticulture Educator in Walworth County. She has a degree in Horticulture from the University of Wyoming, and has worked in the landscape industry at Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy in Williams Bay and has taught in both Nicaragua and Mexico.

Let’s Talk About Weeds

Saturday, March 4th, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., University Center, Room 261

Weeds are survivors. We can admire them and learn from them, but we don’t need to let them take over our gardens. For this session we will discuss managing weeds. We will also talk about using some of the habits of weeds to make our gardening even more fun and interesting.

Meet Your Instructor: Linda Holmes is a retired UW-W Accounting professor who became a Master Gardener in 2014. She is a listed member of Seed Savers Exchange and participant in its M-GEN program. She gardens at home and has plots at the Whitewater Community Garden, whitewatercommunitygarden@gmail.com.
