Holiday season at UW-Whitewater begins with concert, scholarship fundraiser

For more than 30 years, UW-Whitewater's music department has kicked off the holidays with a gala event featuring a dinner, concert and silent auction rolled into one night of enjoyment.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Young Auditorium.

The silent auction, beginning at 7 p.m., includes donated artwork, jewelry and holiday decorations, food, furniture, event tickets and more.

"This is how the entire Whitewater community kicks off the holiday season," said Sarah Altermatt, director of public events. "The goal of the gala is to award student scholarships and raise funds for the entire music department. It really benefits a lot of people."

The main stage concert will include larger UW-Whitewater ensembles such as the gospel choir, vocal jazz group and the chamber singers. Throughout the lobby and Fern Young Terrace, smaller ensembles and soloists will perform.

Visit the gala website, www.uww.edu/youngauditorium/season/gala, to buy tickets for the concert and the dinner. Concert tickets are $10 for UW-Whitewater students and anyone over the age of 65. Dinner tickets are $24. Reservations for dinner must be made by Monday, Nov. 25.
