School Outreach Program: Artists in the Schools
Requests for Horizons outreach may be made by phone at the same time as you place your reservation for a performance, or by calling the Education and Outreach Coordinator at 262-472-1432. Workshop availability is limited and requests are filled in the order that they are taken. We reserve the right to match requests for outreach activities based on the number of participants and geographical location of the school. Some workshops may only be available to school groups that purchase seats for the corresponding performances. Fees are listed for each workshop and support the Horizons programming. Dates and times for outreach are negotiated between the school contact and the Education and Outreach Coordinator based on the presenter's availability. All outreach activities take place at your school, unless otherwise noted. Please call 262-472-1432 for more information.

As part of Young Auditorium's World Music Festival, the four young female musicians that are Kardemimmit will visit your school for a unique music outreach experience. Singers and players of the kantele (the national instrument of Finland) in its 15 and 38 stringed forms, the group will introduce students to their repertory of modern folk music that is predominantly composed by the members themselves. Their music is fresh but strongly rooted in Finnish tradition from both Eastern and Western regions. It Gets Better Assembly Program

The artists of The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) are outstanding in their work with younger individuals. In this session, artists will visit your school to perform selected scenes and songs from It Gets Better and share personal narratives about the harms of bullying and ways in which they overcame adversity. Student questions will be answered, and students will also be invited to comment about the program and its themes. http://www.itgetsbetter.org
Behind the Scenes of The Nutcracker Workshops
Offered - December 2013
Grades 3-12 - 60 min. sessions
Presented by The Dance Factory's artistic director, Tina Lendman
Ms. Lendman and several dancers from The Nutcracker ballet will visit your school and delight your students with dance demonstrations, behind the scenes information about the production, and an interactive discussion and question/answer session.
The Story of a Life Cycle: Science and Movement Workshops
Offered - January and February, 2014
Grades PreK-3 - $75 per session or $150 per day (2 or more consecutive sessions)

* upon request, a session for small groups and home school groups may be scheduled at Young Auditorium on the morning of the performance your group is attending. The fee for a session at Young Auditorium is $2 per participant.*
This arts integration workshop complements the production The Very Hungry Caterpillar and is available as either a pre-show or post-show workshop for those attending the show. Science content and kinesthetic movement will be integrated to help students think about the journey from egg to butterfly. Students will demonstrate understanding of the stages of development in the life cycle of a butterfly by creating their own movement sequences. The workshop will be modified to meet the needs of the age group.
Missoula Children's Theatre Workshops
Offered - March 4, 5, 6, 2014
Grades K-12 - 45 min. sessions
$75 fee per session/ $225 fee for assembly program
Presented by Missoula Children's Theatre Actor/Directors
Missoula Children's Theatre will visit your school to work with students who are interested in theatre basics, such as role-playing, improvisation, character/role development, mime technique, or make-up and visual effects. There are a wide variety of workshop sessions appropriate for students in grades K-12. A whole school assembly program is also available! This is an excellent way to provide your students with a hands-on learning experience about theatre before or after they come to see a performance! These workshops are also great for TAG groups or drama clubs! Call for more information about workshops or auditions for MCT's 2014 production.
Basic Drama Games and Theatre Etiquette Workshops
Offered - upon request throughout the 2013-2014 school year
Grades K-12 - 60 min. sessions
$75 fee per session or $150 per day (2 or more consecutive sessions)
Presented by young Auditorium's Education and Outreach Coordinator (WI Certified Teacher)
Prepare your students for a live performance with this workshop that introduces theatre etiquette through role-play and involves your students in basic drama games. Students will learn about stage blocking, improvisation, character expression and body movement in a fun, interactive and inclusive manner. This workshop will be modified to meet the age and experience of your students.
