The talented singer/actors of Sweet Chariot tell the true story of slavery by combining acapella spirituals with oral histories of formerly enslaved blacks. Hearing their first-hand accounts bring new understanding to students of all backgrounds.
UW-Whitewater Faculty Present: Musical Encounters
The worlds of African music and African-American music are varied and fascinating, and have influenced other types of music as well, such as ragtime, jazz, blues, gospel, and pop. Join UW-Whitewater faculty and students as we travel through these diverse sounds, styles, and connections.
The Musical Encounters concert series is a collaboration of the UW-Whitewater Music Faculty and Young Auditorium. This mission of the program is to expose students to classical music by linking it thematically to the curriculum and the Horizons School Matinee Series performances. Each ½ hour concert is arranged, performed and narrated by UW-Whitewater music faculty and students.
The concerts are free for teachers and students who attend the corresponding Horizons performances. Please make your request for concert reservations at the same time that you reserve seats for Horizons by calling 262-472-4444. Reserve early - seating is limited. Call Young Auditorium's Education and Outreach Coordinator (262-472-1432) for more information.
