About Zong Gu

Zong Gu is a Professor and Director of Doctoral students and Chairperson of Art and Design in the School of Art and Media at Beijing Normal University, China.

Professor Gu studied oil painting at the People's Liberation Army Academy of Art in China and at the Russian Academy of Fine Arts in Russia. He approaches paintings with respect for established academic aesthetics and a commitment to contemporary innovation. Gu believes that drawing is central to contemporary art practices. Rigorous shaping, realistic representation, and excellent design have become the benchmark of his artistic pursuits since his earliest works. Gu's academic studies and dedication to painting from observation inform the development of his artworks. As a professional artist, Gu has exhibited both nationally in China and internationally. He has held solo exhibitions at venues including the Today Art Museum in Beijing, Repin Academy of Art in St. Petersburg, Russia, and National Art Museum of China. His works have also been presented in numerous group exhibitions at Beijing Russian Art Gallery, Taiwan Rare Art Museum, Moon River Resort Gallery, Beijing, and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics Gallery.
