Department of Music
The UW-Whitewater Department of Music, in conjunction with the White House of Music, is launching a new and engaging program to enable family, friends and patrons to have a direct impact upon every music education student through the “Be Instrumental” initiative. This initiative is designed to continue the outstanding preparation of our nationally-recognized Music Education majors AND allow you to make a difference.
To be able to teach ALL instruments, our university music education majors need to learn how to play those instruments. Previously our department was fortunate to have various music stores donate these much-needed instruments. This financially challenging year has brought these donations to a screeching halt. Our department has partnered with White House of Music in a unique program to keep the music alive and well. The two options are listed below. By engaging in either, or both options, you become “instrumental” to empower students to continue the exemplary music education tradition at UW-Whitewater. Any donation is tax deductible to the extent of the law.
Option One - Donate Your Instrument
Do you have instruments stowed in closets, under the bed or hiding in the basement/attic? NOW is the time to pull those instruments out and donate them to our department! Donate your slightly used instrument and receive a letter verifying the donation as a gift. Our hope is that if your instrument needs slight repairs to get it into proper playing condition, you would get those repairs completed before you make your donation. If you are unable to do these necessary repairs, we would have the Tech Class faculty, examine your instrument and make an appraisal of value. To donate your instrument, please fill out the form below and we will get in touch with you! A list of needed instruments can be found below in priority order.
Option Two - Purchase an Instrument or Contribute Towards the Purchase of an Instrument
No instrument at home to donate but you still want to “Be Instrumental”? Purchase or donate through the White House of Music and a student-line instrument will be supplied to the UW-Whitewater Department of Music. White House will keep all donations segregated so any dollar amount donated can accumulate to the dollar value needed for a purchase. In addition, Chris White, President and CEOof White House of Music and 1993 UW-Whitewater alum, will add to this offer a full year of free service for any instrument purchased and donated to the Be Instrumental initiative. A win-win offer we hope you will find enticing! Follow this link to see a list of instruments we need with a donation tab to White House of Music.
Truly, every donation will have a lasting life changing effect on our future educators. To make a donation, fill out our online form and someone will get in contact with you directly! If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Michael Dugan.
