Tech Savvy
Tech Savvy is a one-day conference tailored for girls in grades 6 to 9 and their parent(s), designed to inspire and encourage them in STEM fields. Registration is also open to interested boys. The students who attend Tech Savvy will experience exciting hands-on activities led by professional women in STEM fields. There will be a program for adults to learn more about working in the STEM fields, encouraging their children in STEM, and helping them to prepare for college or technical school.
Limited to the first 117 students and 75 parents/mentors.

To register for this event and secure your spot, click the link below and complete the online registration form before Thursday, February 29, 2024. Our events tend to sell out quickly, so it's recommended to register as soon as possible. If the event is already sold out, you can choose to register for the waitlist at no charge. If a spot becomes available and you are next on the waitlist, you will receive an email notification. You will have three days (or less, as indicated in the email) to respond and accept the open spot.
We do NOT accept walk-up registrations at event check-in.

Boxed Lunch Options: Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef or Vegetarian. All sandwiches are offered on rustic ciabatta bread and include bottled water, chips, whole fruit, condiment packets, napkins, and disposable cutlery. Gluten-free option available.

Included in the Fee: The student fee includes access to the workshop, lunch, a drawstring bag, and a t-shirt. The parent/mentor registration includes access to a workshop and lunch. Additionally, if a participant registers for the camp by Saturday, February 17, 2024, they are guaranteed a t-shirt in their preferred size.

Keynote
Mindy Becker
Operations Manager for SHINE Therapeutics, a division of SHINE Technologies, Janesville, Wisconsin
Keynote | From Beams to Bodybuilding: Breaking the Boundaries of Your Own Mind
A story of taking chances and stepping out of your comfort zone.
Mindy will describe her story of breaking boundaries and stepping out of her comfort zone that took her from a small Wisconsin town to a career in nuclear engineering and stepping on stage. Those first steps pushed the boundaries of what she thought was possible and created opportunities beyond her imagination.
Mindy Becker oversees the commercialization and manufacture of lutetium chloride (Lu-177) a medical isotope primarily used for treatment of late-stage prostate cancer. She earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from UW–Madison. Her interest in plasma physics began in the final year of her undergraduate studies when she joined a team within the UW Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics group working on a diagnostic neutral beam.
Mindy has held several positions within SHINE since starting as a test engineer working on neutron generators in 2017. In 2021, she joined the SHINE Therapeutics team as an engineer to support the start-up of the largest clinical medical isotope manufacturing facility in North America and aided in the design of the commercial facility that opened in August of 2023.
This was the perfect opportunity to combine her background in chemistry and nuclear engineering to solve complex systems and process problems to successfully produce Lu-177.
Workshops
Each workshop is available at each session. Max of 12 in each student session and max of 15 in each parent/mentor session. We are requiring registrants to pick one session for each timeframe. They will not be able to select multiple workshops in a given session. Please be sure to pick a different workshop for each of the 3 student sessions and 3 parent/mentor sessions. Parents/mentors will attend session one with the student.

Insurance
Registrants are encouraged to have their own health insurance as accident insurance provided by the University is limited. Each registrant will be covered by a limited accident insurance policy. The insurance includes primary coverage up to $10,000. Insurance does not cover pre-existing injuries and is for accidents only. The cost of insurance is included in the registration fee.
