UW - Whitewater Gymhawks Fall Classes

The GymHawk Gymnastics program is a developmental gymnastics program run by the UW-Whitewater Gymnastics Team! With state of the art facilities and a fully qualified staff, your child will be able to learn and develop his or her skills in a safe environment with excellent coaches.

Early cancellations will receive a full refund minus 10% cancellation fee if the cancellation is requested 7 days prior to the camp. NO REFUNDS will be given for no shows or campers sent home for disciplinary reasons.  All cancellation requests must be submitted to cesevents@uww.edu; provide registrant's name and event session. Refunds will be returned to name and address of payer.

Parent-Tot Class

18 months - 3.5 years old

The Parent-Tot Class is offered to children ages 18 months to 3.5 years. This class will focus on developing motor skills and functional movement through fun and games. Parent participation is essential in this class to make it the best experience for your child!

Preschool Class

3.5 - 5 years old

The Preschool Class is designed to give your toddler a look into the world of gymnastics. This class will focus on skill development on each of the four apparatuses. Your child will learn how to run, tumble and swing in this fun class, intended for children ages 3.5 to 5 years.

Kindergym

4.5 - 5 years old (has attended preschool)

The Kindergym Class is designed for the more advanced preschooler. Children must be 4.5 years old, and must have participated in at least one session of the GymHawks Preschool Class. If your child is new to the program and you think he or she belongs in the Kindergym Class, please call to set up an evaluation.

Beginner Class

6 years old and up

The Beginner Class is designed for girls ages 6 years and up. This class serves as an introduction to the world of women’s gymnastics. Gymnasts will learn skills on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. This class is great for getting your child involved in the sport of women’s gymnastics. Gymnasts will work on developing strength, coordination and confidence! Completing the skills found on the Beginner Checklist will allow the gymnast to progress to the next level.

Advanced Beginner Class

6 years old and up

The Advanced Beginner Class will build off of what gymnasts have learned in the Beginner Class. This class is slightly more comprehensive than the introductory level class. In this class, gymnasts will learn the importance of form and conditioning. They will also work to improve and advance their skills.

*Intermediate Class

6 years old and up

The Intermediate Class is for more advanced gymnasts. This class is focused on skill enhancement and development. Gymnasts will learn how to maintain and improve skills they already have, while making tremendous improvements on new skills. This class will be 90 minutes long and will include more strengthening and conditioning. Gymnasts in the Intermediate Class are encouraged to come twice a week.

*Advanced Class

6 years old and up

The Advanced Class is geared towards preparing gymnasts for the rigorous schedule of pre-team. This pre-competitive class meets for 2 hours at a time and focuses on developing and fine tuning the skills that are necessary for a gymnast to progress to USAG level 4. Gymnasts must have special permission to enroll in this class.

Tumbling I

6 years old and up

This class will focus mainly on beginner skills such as forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels and backbends. This is the perfect class for a new gymnast or tumbler!

Tumbling II

6 years old and up

This class will build off of what tumblers learned in Tumbling I. The majority of this class will be dedicated to learning the round off and the back handspring. Tumblers must be able to demonstrate all of the skills on the Tumbling I evaluation in order to progress to Tumbling II.

*Tumbling III

6 years old and up

This class is for more advanced tumblers. Tumblers in this class can demonstrate a round off-back handspring by themselves. The emphasis of this class will be on multiple back handsprings, back tucks and front tumbling.

Boys Tumbling and Strength Class

5 - 8 year old

The Boys Tumbling and Strength is offered to children ages 5 - 8 years. The class will focus on the basics of tumbling on both the floor and trampolines. The class will also spend time developing strength, balance and coordination using the different gymnastics apparatus.

*Mini Hawks Class

5 - 8 year old

The Mini Hawks is offered to girls 5 - 8 years old. Gymnasts must have special permission from the program director to enroll in this class. This class meets twice a week for 1 hour.

Participants should plan on arriving approximately 30 minutes to the start of each registered session for check-in at the Williams Center outside the gymnastics gym on the second floor.

Parking

Parking permits are required to park on campus. Details on parking can be found on the Visitor Center website.

Be aware that we advise you to leave all non-essential, portable electronic devices at home (iPod, iTouch, cell phones, etc), but ultimately it is your decision. We will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items and we do not have open Wi-Fi for electronic devices.

Makeup Classes

Makeup classes will be limited to one make up class, per student, per session with the exception of illness.  Contact gymhawks@uww.edu if you need to schedule a makeup session.

Staff

GymHawk classes will be taught by well qualified staff including current and former members of the UW-Whitewater Gymnastics Team. The UW-Whitewater Gymnastics Team is a 5-time National Championship Team in Division III. These instructors have the experience and knowledge to help your child develop to the best of his or her abilities.

Insurance

Each camper will be covered by a limited accident insurance policy. The insurance includes primary coverage up to $7,500 and $300 maximum dental insurance. Insurance does not cover pre-existing injuries and is for accidents only. The cost of insurance is included in the registration fee.
