College of Arts and Communication Academic Programs
Our students are hands-on learners who feel at home in our college as they create what they love.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater offers two safe and spacious campuses where you’ll find plenty of room to learn and grow. Warhawks enjoy the bragging rights of paying less — our combined tuition, room/board and fees is the lowest of four-year campuses in the UW System. And all that safety and value comes with the full college experience: more than 12,500 students, a full range of academic programs and caring faculty and staff dedicated to student success.
Participants will have the opportunity to enroll in three elective classes of their choice.
Movies and Music: Sign up to take a look at music’s effect on movies, composers, foley artists, and other jobs involving sound in movies. Students then get to create their own sound effects to a short movie clip.
Jazz Improvisation: Have little to no experience with improvisation? This class will teach you the basics to sound amazing and confident with jazz improvisation
Music Theory: Looking to brush up on the elements of music theory you want to learn more about? This class will have 2 levels - one for the student just getting started with learning key signatures, note reading, and counting, and the second class will be for more advanced students looking to take their theory knowledge to the next level.
How to Listen/How Music Evokes Feelings: Each listening session will be a group listening session on music that fits certain themes (happy, sad, majestic, genre specific, etc.)
Conducting: Have you ever wanted to learn how to conduct the band? This class is for you!
Composition: Would you like to learn how to write your own piece? In composition class, you will develop the skills to compose your own music!
Musicals: This class features a discussion and look at famous musicals and different techniques used to compose and orchestrate them.
Music Around the World: Come and travel around the world with us through music. Discover music from many cultures as we circle the globe!
Beepbox: BeepBox is an online tool for composing electronic music like you hear in video games.. This class will allow the musician to explore this amazing composing resource.
