Are you looking to increase your gardening knowledge but don't know where to begin?   We've rounded up some of the best gardening classes, whether you're a beginner or an experienced gardener, to get you started!  Led by local expert gardener and landscape consultant, and former director of horticulture at Rotary Botanical Gardens, Mark DwyerThis class is designed for adult learners 18 and older.

  • Gardening with Ferns & Mosses  | Saturday, January 29, 2022 | 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. (CST) - concluded
  • Gardening at "Belly Button" Height | Saturday, February 12, 2022 | 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. (CST) - concluded
  • Adding a Tropical Twist to the Garden  | Saturday, March 12, 2022 | 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. (CST) 

Limited to the first 100 registrants for each session.

Workshop Details

  • Gardening with Ferns & Mosses | There are a wide range of hardy ferns that will add color, texture and form in our gardens. By also utilizing moss as a groundcover in select areas, your shaded spaces will be magically transformed! We'll discuss the best ferns for our area and examine ways of establishing and caring for moss in the garden.
  • Gardening at "Belly Button" Height | As it becomes more challenging to get up and down to garden, we can simply bring the garden up to a comfortable level. Will discuss the many opportunities to create raised planting spaces that are accessible, convenient and comfortable! We'll also discuss some fun ideas on what to grow in these spaces.
  • Adding a Tropical Twist to the Garden | Our Midwest gardens can still feature a "taste of the tropics" with the addition of some heat loving tropical plants for both sun and shade. The vivid colors, bold textures and ornamental contribution make them worth consideration when creating a memorable garden with a "tropical twist".

Registration Questions

Registrants will be asked the following questions in the registration.  Please have the answers prior to registering:

  • Registrant name; address, phone, email; gender idenity; race/ethinicity (optional); 
  • Heard about event; met all the minimal tech requirement to participate in this event; accommodations/comments

Credit Card

Your online registration and payment are always safe and secure.  We accept MasterCard and Visa credit card payments in our online registration system.  We will NOT accept credit card payments over the phone.  We will accept checks made out to "UW-Whitewater" and mailed to UW-Whitewater Camps and Conferences, 800 West Main Street, Room 2005 Roseman Hall, Whitewater WI 53190.

Confirmation Emails
Once you register to attend an event (including waitlisted), a confirmation email will be sent to your email account. Contact if you do not receive this confirmation email.  You must have a working email address on file with us to be able to receive important announcements and updates about this event.

Cost Information

Fee - $25 each session

Included in the Fee:  The registrant fee includes instruction and 0.5 Master Garden CEU for each workshop.  

Cancellations and payments: All registrant accounts must be paid in 21 days prior to the start of event. Registrants with outstanding balances after payment is due in full are subject to being removed from the event roster without refund. Please contact Continuing Education Services    at prior to this deadline if extenuating circumstances prevent you from completing a payment. 

Refunds: In the event of most cancellations, Continuing Education Services should be notified no later than 21 days before the start of the event session in order to receive a refund, less 20% administrative fee.  See event website for specific policy.  Cancellation requests received less than 21 days from the start of camp will receive a refund minus 50% late cancellation fee of event cost. Cancellations due to medical reasons will receive a full refund, less the 20% administrative fee, if the cancellation is requested and medical documentation is provided prior to the start of event. Valid medical cancellations must include a signed letter from a licensed physician to qualify. NO REFUNDS will be given for withdrawal due to early departures, disciplinary reasons or no show after the event has started. 

All cancellation requests must be submitted to; provide registrant’s name, event title and medical documentation, if applicable. Refunds will be returned to name and address of payer. 

We reserve the right to cancel any event for any reason; in such case, all fees paid will be refunded or contact for alternate arrangements. 

Sponsorships & Awards Redemption
For those participants who will be receiving a sponsorship to attend this event: Register and use the promo code your sponsor gave you. The sponsorship will be deducted from your invoice.  Any remaining balance remains the participant's responsibility. Any cancellations will result in the sponsorship funds being returned to the supporting organization.

Any qualifying discounts given by the event will not be applied after you have paid in full. Be sure to use the promo code during check out to receive your discount. You will be charged if you do not qualify for requested discount at the start of event.

A processing fee will be assessed if a refund is issued due to overpayment on your account.

Want to Sponsor a Registrant?
You can sponsor a registrant and cover all or partial fees. We have received requests in the past from schools, companies, organizations, friends and family members that would like to send their chosen registrant to a specific event. If you would like to sponsor a registrant, you can request a promo code that you may give to your chosen registrant. Click here for more details.

Multi Event Discount

Registrants can receive $15 if they register for all three workshops.  Make sure to check "Multi Event Discount" in the registration if you believe you qualify.   Discounts cannot be applied after you register and pay.   You will be charged $15 if you do not attend both sessions.

A few days prior to the event you will receive an email from the director indicating the steps you will need to take to join this event.  Please contact if you do not recieve this email 24 hours before the event starts.

By registering for an event, you agree to our Registration Terms and Conditions. UW-Whitewater will hold all registrants responsible for their conduct.  Serious misconduct or disruption will lead to immediate dismissal from event.  Registrants dismissed from the event will not receive a refund.  Please review the Terms and Conditions for more details.
