This workshop aims to present a coordinated approach to purposeful assessment at the advanced high school and intermediate college levels in the world language classroom. The workshop will provide participants with a theoretical framework for the three modes of assessment, best practices in the classroom to support assessment strategies, such as increased target language use, and examples of alternative assessment tasks using technology, including wikis, digital storytelling and more. Teachers will then collaborate in groups during a “hands-on” afternoon session to develop new tools to assess student learning to implement in their own world language classrooms and share with all workshop participants.
The UW-Whitewater School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education, in collaboration with the faculty of the Department of Languages and Literatures, will hold a one-day World Language Assessment Workshop, Wednesday, August 6 from 8:30 A.M.—3:00 P.M. on the UW-Whitewater campus.
This event is open to current high school world language teachers who teach advanced levels (4, 5, AP, or IB) and will be of special interest to current or potential dual enrollment instructors in UW-Whitewater's Partners in Education (PIE) program. All participants are asked to bring 3 potential units from a level 4 or 5 world language course for use in the afternoon collaborative session.
