    Jodie Parys teaches courses in Spanish language and Latin American literature in the Department of Languages and Literatures.  In each course, students perform service learning in community agencies that serve Spanish speakers to gain real-life experience using Spanish. Additionally, Dr. Parys has been involved in the development and delivery of several of the COBAO diplomados for ESL teachers, both in Oaxaca and here at UWW. 

    Her research interests focus primarily on the intersection of disease and narrative in Latin America, centered specifically on the AIDS epidemic.  She is the author of Writing AIDS: (Re)Conceptualizing the Individual and Social Body in Spanish America (Ohio State University Press, 2012), as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles related to HIV/AIDS in Spanish American Literature.  She is also interested in the use of service learning as a pedagogical tool in Spanish language classrooms and has published articles and presented her research in this field at several professional conferences.

    Dr. Parys also serves as the Spanish liaison for the Partners-in-Education (PIE) program.
