In this step, you’ll test your introduction for how well it
● focuses the reader’s attention on your topic
● makes an arguable claim
● previews the direction of your argument

Now complete step one on your worksheet. Take this opportunity to revise your introduction so that it meets the three goals above. You may find that this is a good time to look at the draft of your conclusion. Often, through the process of writing, your ideas develop further. Thus, in your rough draft, your conclusion might state your ideas more fully and clearly than the introduction does. Check to see if this is the case. If you find sentences in your conclusion that more clearly state your purpose, import them into your introduction. Then copy and paste into the worksheet the parts of your introduction that focus the reader on your topic, make an arguable claim, and preview the direction of your argument. When you finish, click on "Step Two" on the navigation panel.
