American College Theatre Festival

Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF)

Each year, the Department of Theatre/Dance participates in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival (KC/ACTF), bringing theatre professionals to our campus to respond to all of our productions.  During each January, we send 20-25 students to the KC/ACTF Region III Festival where they:

  • attend 5-7 participating productions from the region (we enter one of our productions each season as a participating entry in hopes of being chosen to perform at the Festival)
  • participate in the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship program and Student Work Competitions for designers, technicians, stage managers, directors and playwrights, and
  • avail themselves of the full range of workshops, symposia, and exhibits that are part of each regional Festival.

In recent years, we have had students advance to finals of the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship program, as well as the design/tech competitions.  Since 2000, we have had four of our productions selected to be performed at regional Festivals.  As a department, we work hard with campus administration to be able to make this invaluable experience available to as many students as possible, as the American College Theatre Festival encourages, recognizes and celebrates the finest work produced in university theatre programs across the country.
