Curriculum Committee
October 10, 2013

Members Present: Tracy Arneson-Baker, Scott Bradley, Penny Portman, Mark Schroeder, John Zbikowski, Katy Heyning (Chair)

  1. The meeting was called to order at 8:05 a. m.

  2. The agenda was approved on a Winchell/Portman motion.

  3. Minutes of the meeting of September 12, 2013 were approved as written.

  4. Curricular/Action items:
    • Communication Sciences and Disorders department: 
      Change in Major, BS
      Change in Major, BA
      Change in Major, BSE
      Scott Bradley moved, and Brooke Winchell seconded, approval of all three proposals with the following amendments: (1) add a more specific rationale accounting for the change in credits to degree, and (2) drop the recommended minor.  The motion failed. 
    • John Zbikowski moved, and Penny Portman seconded, approval of 
      New Course: COMDIS 485, Senior Seminar in Communication Sciences and Disorders, 
      with the following amendment: the course would be offered on a Satisfactory/No Credit basis only.   The motion failed.
    • Educational Foundations department: 
      The new course EDFOUND 486/686, Curriculum Evaluation and Improvement Iwas approved on a Schroeder/ Winchell motion. 
  5. Information Item: It is strongly encouraged that the sponsor of a proposal follow their proposal through the College Curriculum Committee and the University Curriculum Committee until it has been passed. The sponsor is in the best position to respond to questions concerning their proposal and in expediting the approval process.

  6. New Business: After brief discussion, it was resolved that from now on the committee may approve proposals with minor editorial corrections but will not approve proposals pending substantial revision.  Departments should ensure that proposals are clear and complete before placing them on the Curriculum Committee agenda.

  7. Old Business:  None

  8. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m. on a Schroeder/Zbikowski motion.
