ATTENTION:

The Department of Finance and Business Law in the College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Finance. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in finance, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and may/should include investments and general finance.

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level finance courses, face-to-face and online as part of the MS Finance and BBA Finance programs. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate and graduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in finance or equivalent is required.
  • ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2019; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2020 in advance of their first scheduled review.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students, clear evidence of scholarly potential, commitment to working with diverse populations and serving as active member of the university community. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience.
Desired Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in finance with a research record or potential to conduct high quality research, experience with a variety of teaching methods and a willingness to be active in departmental, professional, university, and community service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-Time teaching responsibilities include teaching FNBSLW 765 Alternative Investments, FNBSLW 737 Securities Valuation, FNBSLW 736 Investment Banking, and new courses developed for the program. Teaching undergraduate courses, such as FNBSLW 344 Business Finance, FNBSLW 345 Investments, and other finance electives is expected based on department needs. Research expectations include peer-reviewed journal articles, case studies, books (book chapters), and other intellectual contributions defined in the CoBE Faculty Handbook. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings or on weekends [if applicable]. Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving to student success. Additional responsibilities include: willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills; ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The department of Finance and Business Law (http://www.uww.edu/cobe/fbl) is one of the seven departments in the College of Business and Economics (http://www.uww.edu/cobe). There are 19 full-time faculty and staff members supporting over 700 undergraduate majors with emphasis in general finance, insurance, financial planning, and real estate, MBA and MS Finance programs, and DBA program in the college. The College of Business and Economics in UWW is the biggest business school in the State of Wisconsin. The college enrolls over 4,700 business undergraduate students with over 30 majors/emphases in 2017-18 academic year. Graduate programs offered include Masters of Business Administration (with11 unique emphases), Masters of Professional Accountancy, Masters of Science in Finance, Masters in Environmental Safety and Health, and Doctorate of Business Administration.
