ATTENTION:

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Educational Leadership (preparing graduate students/professionals for positions such as K-12 Principal, Director of Instruction or Director of Special Education/Pupil Services) and/or Higher Education Leadership (in the areas of student and academic affairs and athletic administration at the collegiate level). The candidate will be responsible for coordinating the Educational Leadership Cooperative Program which leads to certification as a K-12 Principal, Director of Instruction or Director of Special Education/Pupil Services. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching graduate courses in the Educational Leadership Cooperative program (with the University of Wisconsin-Madison) and/or the Higher Education Leadership Program, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and should include equity, diversity and inclusion in education, and organizational administration and leadership.

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the Educational Leadership Cooperative Program in cooperation with our partners at UW-Madison (this requires periodic travel to UW Madison). Program coordination includes: actively marketing and recruiting students for the program; processing graduate applications; scheduling classes and identifying adjunct instructors, developing and implementing academic assessment and program evaluation, developing program reports/evaluations for audit & review, holistically advising degree-candidates, coordinating student placement in practicum experiences, and other related program coordination duties. The candidate will teach courses as part of the Educational Leadership Cooperative Program and/or the Higher Education Leadership program (including the emphasis in Athletic Administration). The candidate may have responsibility for coordinating the Higher Education Leadership program depending on teaching load. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages graduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, College Student Affairs or closely related field by the position start date in August 2019. (ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2019; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2019 in advance of their first scheduled review).
  • Leadership experience in education, either at the K-12 level or at a college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience as a champion of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Three years of teaching experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience as a former teacher and administrator at the K-12 level.
  • Experience in program coordination/administration or evidence of promise in this area.
  • Experience at the college/university level (in administration or teaching).
  • Experience or expertise in athletics/athletics administration.
  • Evidence of a commitment to justice within leadership.
  • Established or evidence of a promising research agenda in education.
  • Evidence of ability to connect research and theory to practice and to prepare educators and practitioners with the ability to make these connections as leaders.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Full-Time teaching responsibilities include teaching content-specific courses in the Educational Leadership program and/or the Higher Education Leadership program depending on expertise and experience. Other teaching expectations include placement and supervision of practicum experiences. Research expectations include conference presentations and publications in nationally peer-reviewed journals. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate and graduate student research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings or on weekends. Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving to student success.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The Curriculum and Instruction Department in the UW-Whitewater College of Education & Professional Studies (COEPS) provides students with the opportunity to prepare for careers as teachers and offers a number of graduate degrees in professional development for emerging K-12 and higher education leaders. Undergraduate students may choose the Early Childhood Program, the Elementary/Middle (MCEA) School Program or a Middle/Secondary School Program. Our programs lead to licensure either as a first time license or add on licenses. Graduate students may chose the MSE-Professional Studies program which has a number of emphasis areas, one of which is HELEAD, or the Educational Leadership degree (which this candidate will coordinate).
