ATTENTION:

 

The First-Year English Program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2023. We seek candidates with strong experience teaching first-year writing and working with emerging writers. Additional expertise in writing program administration and/or writing centers would be welcome. The Assistant Professor may also teach in the university’s General Education Program, as well as other courses in the “English department” as needed. Preference will be given to candidates with specialization or teaching experience in the following areas: first-year writing and writing programs, program assessment, multimodal composition, corequisite writing labs, or WAC/WID work. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching, research, and service to the university and community.

 

JOB DETAILS:

 

The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in our First-Year English program, which includes Developmental Reading and Writing; Introduction to College Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking; and Introduction to College Reading, Writing, and Research. They may also teach Advanced Composition. In addition to teaching, candidates will be expected to pursue an active research agenda that contributes to advancing the First-Year English program, department, university, and profession and that results in publications. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities that contribute to the program, department, and college.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • A Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric or English with specialization in Writing Studies.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, clear evidence of scholarly potential, the ability to work with diverse populations, and a commitment to serve as an active member of the university community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to interact respectfully and work collaboratively with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students, parents, staff, and faculty.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Full-time teaching responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load. Research expectations require peer-reviewed research and/or creative activity relevant to the discipline. Service responsibilities include committee work at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community and professional organizations relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interests.
