The Department of Computer Science in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in cybersecurity, networking, or related areas beginning August 2023. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in our cybersecurity and computer science programs.
The successful candidate will become part of the Cybersecurity B.S. and M.S. programs as well as the Computer Science B.S. and M.S. programs. The successful candidate will be expected to assist with teaching one or more of the courses offered in areas such as cryptography, digital forensics, information privacy, intrusion detection, system and software security, computer networking, or cloud computing. The successful candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate and graduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, university, profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Full-time teaching responsibilities include teaching a variety of courses, depending on the candidate’s interests and experience, as well as the department’s needs. Specific courses may include introduction to cybersecurity, cryptography and network security, digital forensics, intrusion detection, cloud computing and security, computer system security, computer networking, malware analysis, web security, and supervision of undergraduate internships or graduate capstone projects.
Research expectations include publishing in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations and grant writing. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage undergraduate and graduate students in research or other scholarly and creative activities.
Service responsibilities include committee service at the department, college, and university levels, along with service to the profession and community as appropriate to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach in a variety of formats, including in-person, online and hybrid. Teaching will also occasionally occur during the evening.

Our department supports nearly 400 undergraduate majors in computer science and cybersecurity, as well as 150 undergraduate minors in computer science, cybersecurity, data science, bioinformatics, and website development and administration. Graduate programs supported by the department include Master of Science programs in Computer Science (primarily on-campus) and in Cybersecurity (fully online, in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology and Supply Chain Management in the College of Business and Economics). The faculty in the department have been actively engaging in research and education grants funded by federal agencies that include the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, and the Department of Labor.
