ATTENTION:

The Division of Enrollment & Retention seeks a Coordinator of Early Success.

JOB DETAILS:

The Early Student Success Coordinator will serve as an integral part of the Academic Advising and Exploration Center (AAEC). This position will coordinate the planning and implementation of early success programs for all students with a focus on first and second year students at UW-Whitewater. These programs will be designed to identify and address student issues that are either roadblocks or facilitators to success in a timely fashion to improve retention and on-time degree completion as part of the university’s new strategic plan goals. The Early Success Program will provide a structure that involves campus services and collaborations with other units on campus in a proactive strategic and systemic process to detect academic and personal issues and provide targeted interventions to resolve them.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or Counseling;
  • Experience working in a university setting, preferably within student success initiatives, or related functional area (i.e. tutoring, housing, orientation, advising);
  • Experience with early warning/early “alert” software, processes, intervention, and program management;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 or more years of experience working with student sucess initiatives;
  • Experience with supervision of student staff;
  • Experience training faculty, staff and students;
  • Experience working with student information systems (People Soft or other SIS);
  • Experience with crisis management, conflict resolution, and building rapport with students;
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and staff.

  • Excellent data analysis and administrative skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

75%   A. Programmatic Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop, implement, maintain, and manage an early success system for students (i.e., software and assessments).
  2. Develop, implement, and manage early success intervention strategies for students.
  3. Track the progress of high-risk students and provide interventions in response to student needs in order to improve student retention and graduation in accordance with university strategic goals.
  4. Work collaboratively with other departments, committees, and Colleges to develop and implement student success strategies.
  5. Follow up, monitor, and track student referrals.
  6. Work with students to assist in a success plan that addresses their needs.
  7. Maintain records and prepare reports.
  8. Provide strategic planning and ongoing program evaluation for the Early Alert program.
  9. Compile data and prepare reports to demonstrate program effectiveness.
  10. Develop and manage interventions for identified students and communication with them for appropriate referrals and resources.
  11. Market the early success program to current faculty and staff.
  12. Provide training on how use the technology.
  13. Coordinate and instruct one or more sections of an academic success course.
15%   B. Supervision
  1. Coordinate the recruitment, selection, on-going training and evaluation for one graduate assistant to work specifically with early success programs.
  2. Coordinate the recruitment, selection, on-going training and evaluation of undergraduate student leaders working within the early success program.
10%   C. Miscellaneous
  1. Serve on University committees as appropriate (i.e., CARE Team, Student Success Committee, etc.).
  2. Develop and facilitate an early success council.
  3. Will be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

The Early Success position will be located in the Academic Advising and Exploration Center (AAEC) reporting to the director. The Early Success position will be located under the Division of Enrollment and Retention, which reports to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
