ATTENTION:

The University Health & Counseling Services seeks a Clinical Physical Therapist (Physical Therapist).

JOB DETAILS:

The Physical Therapist is a member of the University Health & Counseling Services, serves the university community and primarily provides specialized therapeutic services to disabled students. A primary goal is to promote and enhance successful student learning though the delivery of quality health care, counseling and education.

This position is full time during the academic year and off for summers and winter breaks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Graduate Degree in Physical Therapy from accredited program.
  • Must hold, or be eligible for, Wisconsin Physical Therapy licensure.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Supervisory, writing, communication, sports medicine or health education.
  • Sensitivity to development issues of young adults and willingness to functions with a team approach is essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to provide own structure and work independently.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provision of Direct Care is the primary responsibility and not to be less than 90% in any contract year.
  1. Provides direct “hands-on physical therapy services to disabled students within the standards of accepted medical practice dictated by the Medical Practice act of the State of Wisconsin. The therapist evaluates, plans and institutes treatment programs to address the functional needs of the physically disabled, including:
  2. Teaching/promoting independence in activities of daily living (transferring, independent mobility)
  3. Providing adaptations/assistance required for functional independence
  4. Pain control and management
  5. Exercise programs: strengthening, endurance, flexibility, standing and walking programs
  6. Provides consultation, problem solving, and referral: as a resource to disabled students for financial, social and academic needs such as equipment repair and prescription, communications evaluation, driving evaluation.
  7. Conducts pre-enrollment for potential students in cooperation with Nurse Practitioner and Disabled Student Services: 1 day comprehensive needs assessment to ensure a smooth transition to campus life.
Non-Direct Care not to exceed 10% in a given contract year and may vary weekly depending on the given needs.
  1. Provides consultation to on-campus departments, organizations and faculty to enhance disabled students’ ability to participate in all campus activities. Works with housing to determine need for physical modifications. Consults with interested faculty to lessen physical or attitudinal barriers. Provides inservice training to any interested group or individual.
  2. Pursues campus-wide involvement: serves as advocate for disabled students, and works with campus organizations and academic departments. The Physical Therapist educates individual clients whenever possible about health and disability needs, and educates and provides information to the campus and community. Provides students interested in physical therapy and health-related careers an opportunity for first hand exposure and experience.
  3. Regularly attends staff meetings of Disabled Student Services to provide, inform, and coordinate activities as appropriate.

University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) is a merged health and counseling center that provides physical health, mental health and wellness services to enrolled students.
