ATTENTION:

The Office of Admissions at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a Bilingual Admissions Counselor (Associate Student Services Coordinator).
    
JOB DETAILS:

The Bilingual/Spanish Admissions Counselor assists prospective students in navigating the college selection process. This is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Director of Admissions, and will be responsible for recruiting, admitting and enrolling a talented and diverse student body. This position will establish and maintain relationships with prospective students, parents, and high school counselors. In addition to general admission duties, this position is responsible for developing and implementing targeted outreach efforts to multicultural, diverse and underrepresented students. The individual will present information to prospective students during scheduled daily visit presentations, will assist during campus open house events and will perform other duties as assigned by the director. Domestic travel is required, especially during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.
    
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English. Ability to professionally speak, read, write and translate between languages
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license
  • One-year experience working with students in a high school or college setting
Desired Qualifications:
  • One-year experience in admissions, recruitment, higher education, or marketing related field
  • Professional experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with use of CRM (customer relationship management) systems
  • Familiarity with student information systems, particularly PeopleSoft
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong organizational and event planning skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff and faculty
  • Strong written communication and public speaking skills     
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Market, recruit and provide customer support to prospects and applicants through face-to-face interactions, small and large group presentations, educational fairs, telephone and email inquiries, and high school visits.  This includes extensive travel primarily in Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
  2. Build relationships and coordinate recruiting activities with targeted community organizations and school districts. Cultivate relationships with community partners.
  3. Establish working relationships with high school counselors in assigned regions.
  4. Coordinate prospective student programming to further develop the commitment to UWW.
  5. Create and implement effective communication strategies using the CRM and other venues of outreach.
  6. Use data and current trends to strategically market to and recruit high school students within designated region.
  7. Travel to and recruit students at college fairs and high schools in assigned territories. Attend college fairs specific to Latinx students and services.
  8. Review applications and make admission decisions in a fair manner, consistent with university and office policy.  
  9. Coordinate the LLAVE (Latinos Achieving High Educational Visions) program to increase awareness to area Latinx prospective students.
  10. Connect with faculty and staff to build support and commitment to serving Latinx students at UWW. Build relationships with Student, Diversity, Engagement and Success organizations and staff.
  11. Provide assistance in the selection of various multicultural scholarships, such as the King Chavez Scholarship.
  12. Collaborate with Latinos Unidos student group on recruitment initiatives.
  13. Field telephone and email inquiries from potential students and families and deliver informational presentations to students who come to campus for a tour.
  14. Meet with prospective students and their parents during campus visits.
  15. Be familiar with university policies and procedures, especially Housing, Financial Aid, First Year Experience, and Center for Students with Disabilities, to communicate effectively with prospects.
  16. Participate in professional organizations, conferences and workshops when appropriate.
  17. Serve as a liaison for one of the academic colleges and/or other university departments as a representative of the Admissions Office to serve as the primary office contact.
  18. Additional duties as prescribed by the Director of Admissions.
