The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Vice Chancellor. JOB DETAILS:

The Vice Chancellor for student affairs advises the Chancellor and university leadership on matters that enhance student life while providing leadership to multiple areas that influence the student experience. Under the direction of the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs plays an integral role in fulfilling the University’s mission and strategic plan.  The SSAO is responsible for the overall design, organization, delivery, supervision, evaluation, and fiscal management of a comprehensive student development program. The SSAO is charged with the promotion and delivering of programs and services that enhance student success, achievement, and satisfaction.  The SSAO must have an understanding of and passion for higher education, the ability to inspire teamwork and cooperation, understand the necessity and promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion and the capacity to be innovative.   

The SSAO oversees the Dean of Students Office, University Health & Counseling Services, University Center, Center for Students with Disabilities, Career & Leadership Development, University Housing, University Dining Services, University Bookstore/Textbook Rental, and the Children’s Center.

This position ensures divisional compliance with the university as well as the UW System mission, vision that also supports the Strategic Plan for both environments. The position provides leadership, builds a collegial team spirit and holds professional responsibility that promotes agile positive student relations through strong interpersonal communications with student governance and serves as a strong advocate for the university and continued student success.
    
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related specialization
  • Seven years of leadership experience in higher education, with at least five of those years related to student affairs
  • A demonstrated ability in working with diverse populations
Desired Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in a related specialization
  • Be a recognized leader with a proven history that demonstrates student-centered focus
  • Proven track record of developing and leading new programs that demonstrate successful outcomes for students
  • Ability to provide executive level leadership, strategic planning, oversight, and coordinator of all units in the Division of Student Affairs in the areas of programming, policy development, program evaluation, facilities, and fiscal resource management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills, with strong problem solving and conflict resolution acumen
  • Exemplary written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices in college student development
  • Proficient in project management and presentation skills
  • The ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with cabinet members, academics, governance groups, athletics, law enforcement (both on and off campus), equity, diversity and inclusion, administrative affairs and community organizations
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
   
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. The development of collegial division teams that work cohesively with all areas of the university campuses
  2. Continued programming that supports strategic student enrollment and engagement
  3. Lead exploration and development of co-curricular mapping project
  4. Provide communication and resources to divisional budget managers and related staff regarding spending efficiencies that maximizes campus resources
  5. Support workforce development that ties both campuses to internships, employment opportunities that enhance student success through the development implementation of best practices and efficiencies
  6. Represent the division on key committees related to assessment and student learning
  7. Develop assessments of student learning outcomes within the Division of Student Affairs
  8. Manage a multi-million-dollar budget
  9. Ensure that institutional policies and practices provide fair and equitable treatment for all students
  10. Commitment to the goals and values of UW- Whitewater
  11. Accessible, inclusive and interactive with the entire campus community
