The Center for Students with Disabilities, Inclusive Transition, Education & Employment Projects grant team at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Career Interviewer (Assoc Outreach Spec).

JOB DETAILS:

Join a dynamic team at with the Wisconsin Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Career Interview Project under the Inclusive Transition, Education, and Employment Projects at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. This project is in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, to provide services leading to compliance with Section 511 of the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The Associate Outreach Specialist will join a team of career interviewers to provide career counseling interviews and integrated employment resources for subminimum wage workers with a disability statewide. The Associate Outreach Specialist will work closely with the ITE&EP team to complete assigned career interviews, provide required documentation and communication, and to support continuous quality improvement of team process. Communication and partnership with regional 14c certified employers to meet with subminimum wage employees with disabilities, their guardians, and/or their family members, is required. Interviews are in-person, small group discussions with subminimum wage employees. This Associate Outreach Specialist will primarily conduct interviews in their assigned region in the southern and southwestern areas of Wisconsin, but travel across the state will occur to support timely project outcomes. This position will work under the supervision of the Director. Expectation of ongoing employment is contingent upon continued grant funding, staffing requirements and needs of the university.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences, Education, or Social Work from an accredited college or university required
  • 2 years of experience working in human services, education or related field with persons with disabilities
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Must have valid WI driver’s license or have independent transportation
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Special Education, Psychology, Social Sciences, or other related degrees
  • Knowledge of subminimum wage employment and competitive, integrated employment
  • Experience working with people with developmental, intellectual, severe or complex disabilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to travel 75% of time
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, virtual and verbal communication skills with diverse populations, including those with varying communication styles and abilities
  • Ability to maintain collaborative communication during travel and other busy work-periods
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, especially Outlook email and calendar, Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career counseling, transitional services, or other disability related services and work
  • Knowledge in career and disability counseling and direct service delivery with people with disabilities, preferably adults, and their families
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders, experience or training with motivational interviewing preferred
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals with disabilities with a wide range of abilities and communication styles
  • Demonstrated adaptability and problem-solving ability
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
  • Ability to create and write reports that are substantiated
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with and contribute to a dynamic team
  • Ability to manage time and responsibilities effectively and work independently in the field
  • Proficient with technology and software such as Outlook, Work, Excel and other business standard software
  • Ability to set up remote office with reliable high speed Wi-Fi connection or hotspot
  • Ability to meet UW-W driver’s requirements
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

60%   A. Career Interviews
  1. Provide career counseling, information and resources, and referrals to subminimum wage employees during in person interviews across Wisconsin
  2. Schedule interviews, manage interview and travel logistics, and interview preparations
  3. Complete all necessary documentation and reports in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner
  4. Communicate with subminimum wage employees, guardians and family members, vocational providers, and other stakeholders as applicable, to ensure consistency and coordination of service delivery
  5. Travel to complete interviews
  6. Comply with all University, partner agencies, state and federal regulations and confidentiality and compliance requirements, and uphold the ethics of their respective discipline
25%   B. Interview Operations Support
  1. Support other career interviewers and team members through communications with 14c employers and interviewers by monitoring the team shared email and calendar, reviewing completed interview materials for thoroughness, assisting in team workflow support and student employee guidance and support.
  2. Develop resources related to integrated and community resources for assigned areas
15%   C. Other Required Activities
  1. Participate in all required meetings, including virtual and on campus meetings and other team projects as assigned
  2. Provide support to the Project Manager on specific projects
  3. Other duties as assigned related to the project
