ATTENTION:

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Education and Professional Studies are seeking an Assistant Sports Performance Coach and Kinesiology Lecturer (ASST COACH & LECTURER).

This will be a fixed term appointment and reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon needs of the position, university funding and external forces.

This is an internal posting for current UW-Whitewater employees. JOB DETAILS:

The Assistant Sports Performance Coach / Kinesiology Lecturer will assist in the planning, recruiting, coaching, developing, implementing, communication and administering of his/her program to achieve University and Department objectives and fulfill responsibilities with the strength and conditioning programs and teaching duties within the Department of Kinesiology. Goals and objectives are to be developed prior to the beginning of each season. Exhibit behavior that enhances the respect for the student-athletes, the athletics program, the University, and conduct of professional responsibilities. Assist in the direction and control of the program in accordance with NCAA, WIAC, and University rules and regulations. Violation of University, NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Be a willing and active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.

The Assistant Coach will teach undergraduate course supporting the Physical Education Teacher Education program, the Athletic Coaching minor and/or the Human Performance major. The Assistant Coach may supervise student field study and/or student teaching placements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sports Science, Human Performance or related field
  • Certification from either/or NSCA (CSCS), CSCCa (SCCC)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • Three years of strength and conditioning specific coaching experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of GPS tracking systems and how to analyze and utilize data
  • Collegiate strength and coaching experience specifically Division III working with diverse populations
  • Minimum of 3 years collegiate teaching experience in health, human performance, physical education, coaching, or related areas
  • Program design experience specifically for athletic teams including both males and females
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, Including necessary training and drills
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Adhere to all rules and guidelines of the NCAA, WIAC and University.
  2. Adhere to all athletic training measures for the safety and welfare of student-athletes.
  3. Attend staff meetings/professional development seminars, and assist with total program issues.
  4. Assist to ensure the safety, maintenance and preparation of the playing and practice areas for all student-athletes.
  5. Assist the Director with the development, coordination and supervision of the overall strength and conditioning program.
  6. Assist with organizing and supervising student-athlete strength and conditioning programs.
  7. Develop and implement strength and conditioning activities for select varsity sports as assigned.
  8. Work closely with Director of Sport Performance and each sport's head coach.
  9. Monitor the progress of each athlete and implements changes where needed.
  10. Modify workouts based on injury working closely with athletic training staff.
  11. Provide leadership and instruction in the athletic development of student athletes to include skill analysis, teach proper technique and adapt workouts to match each sports specific needs, provide encouragement, motivation and feedback to student athletes to ensure maximum development of athletic potential.
  12. Assist with training interns and volunteers. Maintain weight room and equipment.
  13. Perform related departmental duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Performance.
  14. Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule with the ability to work mornings/weekends/evenings and travel as needed and be present at all assigned workouts.
  15. Adapt workouts to fit facility and/or equipment constraints
  16. Proven track record of leadership roles/positions and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  17. Gather, analyze and utilize feedback from director, coaches and student-athletes
General Administration of Program/Teaching and College Involvement:
  1. Teaching Responsibilities:
    • Teach coaching, physical education and/or human performance courses. All instructional staff at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater may be required to teach evening and/or weekend classes.
    • Engage in recruiting activities for the Kinesiology Department.
    • Work with the Kinesiology faculty on course development and design.
    • Maintain regular weekly office hours.
  2. Scholarly and Professional Involvement:
    • Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
    • Maintain current membership in professional organizations.
  3. University and Community Service:
    • Serve on department and university committees as needed.
    • Serve as a resource to the community in areas of expertise.
    • Assist the Director with the development of outreach activities that support and enhance the athletics program, individual sports, and university.
