ATTENTION:

The College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater is seeking two Academic Advisors (AE002).

These will be 100% fixed term annual appointments and reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon needs of the positions, university funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

Under the direction of the Assistant Dean and in collaboration with fellow advisors, college administrators, campus partners, and college faculty, the Academic Advisor provides academic related information and advice to students in the College of Business and Economics undergraduate academic programs. Academic Advisors are responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses, determining appropriate education solutions for different types of students and facilitating the student’s academic development. This position may be assigned some recruitment responsibilities. This position will be responsible for advising on-campus and online students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (by the start date)
  • Two years of work experience in a higher education setting
  • Commitment to a student-centered advising team approach with ability to work with a diverse population
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in business or business education or academic program administration
  • Bilingual experience working with Hispanic Outreach
  • Professional academic advising experience
  • Demonstration of excellent organizational, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Appreciation and demonstrated commitment to serving diverse student populations
  • Adaptability and flexibility to handle various situations and think strategically in responding to issues
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

75% A. Advising
  1. Provide holistic academic advising to on-campus and online College of Business and Economics students.
  2. Analyze student records in preparation for advising appointments and advising planning.
  3. Provide advising through individual appointments, drop-in appointments, group advising sessions, informational sessions and Canvas advising courses.
  4. Participate in SOAR and Warhawk Premiere Days providing advising to incoming students and prospective students.
  5. Reviews student files to ensure deadlines are met for completing various graduation requirements and other specific program requirements.
  6. Receives and gives referrals to and from faculty and other University offices for students’ major considerations, academic issues, or personal concerns.
  7. Assists departments and faculty in advising through policy interpretations, academic records, evaluations and other requested data, recommendations and conclusions.
  8. Perform supplemental administrative activities such as scheduling meetings, securing requested information, verifying and maintaining Image Now records and preparing summary reports as necessary.
  9. Support recruitment by responding to potential student inquiries using Slate software.
  10. Contact non-enrolled students from past semesters.
25% B. Student Services Administrative Duties
  1. Prepare advisor and student training material.
  2. Develop advisor and student reference documentation
  3. Present group training sessions
  4. Act as department liaison for CoBE Advising and Career Services
  5. Complete advising related projects
  6. Perform related duties as required or deemed necessary by the Assistant Dean to meet the CoBE Advising Center goals within the Advisor’s scope of responsibility.
