The College of Integrated Studies at the UW-Whitewater Rock County Campus is seeking an NJCAA Men's and Women's Bowling Coach.

 

 

JOB DETAILS:

 

The Head Coach is a part-time position that oversees an intercollegiate athletic team and provides leadership in developing and evaluating the team and individual student-athletes. They have primary responsibility for recruiting and instructing eligible players in fundamental skills and strategies, organizing, implementing, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of the team sport, and attending and running practices and competitions.  The coach will develop, recruit and administer competitive Men’s and Women’s Bowling programs consistent with the student-athlete philosophy of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university (Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • 1 year of previous bowling team coaching experience at the high school or college level
  • USBC Silver Coaching certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Collegiate bowling experience
  • First Aid Certification Preferred.
  • CPR/AED Certification by the American Heart Association or the Red Cross
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population
  • Possession of, or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license
  • Familiar with NJCAA rules and regulations

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in the following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Recruits student-athletes for participation in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Cooperates with academic advisers to support the academic progress of the student-athlete.  Ensures that athletes reach their academic goals by monitoring class attendance and ensuring that they receive academic support as necessary.
  • Prepares the student-athletes for competition through planning and conducting well-organized practices and contests.
  • Plans and directs the training of student-athletes, and assesses individuals' abilities and skill levels to determine appropriate team positions. Conducts in-season and off-season team practice and conditioning programs including skills training and weight and conditioning training.
  • Works closely with the Dean of the College of Integrated Studies, and other school administrators, faculty, and staff to assure student-athletes are academically eligible for a given sport.
  • Assists in assuring compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations for the specific sport. Closely monitors academic, conduct and physical requirements for each student-athlete. In collaboration with the campus Athletic Director, completes and maintains records and statistics for accurate, mandatory reporting to the NJCAA and regional regulatory agencies.
  • In collaboration with the campus-level Athletic Director, prepares and manages the budget for a specific sport.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of meaningful professional development activities designed to enhance the skills of all Athletic Department personnel.
  • Enforces the college's academic, student, and athletic code of conduct. Supervises the student-athletes during practice, contests, and travel. May drive college vehicles or college leased vehicles to and from scheduled contests.
  • Coordinates the care and reporting of incidents and injuries to the appropriate College and District personnel.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

 

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

 

The Department of Integrated Studies is a multi-disciplinary department of dedicated educators--currently more than 40 full and part-time faculty and instructional academic staff. The College of Integrated Studies enrolls approximately 600 students who are completing the first two years of their undergraduate program. The department offers the Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree and the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree.
