ATTENTION:

The Department of Human Resources in the Division of Administrative Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a HR Generalist - Employee Benefits and Worker's Compensation Specialist (HR Generalist HR010).

This is an internal posting for current UW-System employees. Applicants who currently are not employed by UW-System in a qualifying category will not be considered. After review of internal applicants, the position may be opened for public application.

JOB DETAILS:

Functioning under the general supervision of the Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer, this position is responsible for fulfilling specific operational needs of Employee Benefits, W/FMLA, Worker’s Compensation and UW Whitewater Wellness Initiatives as well as providing general administrative support to Human Resources Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications

·       Associate’s degree in human resources and/or other related field, or two (2) years of equivalent work experience in human resources or a closely related area.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Working knowledge of the rules and procedures of the Wisconsin workers’ compensation claims management process

·       Knowledge of Risk Management, Occupational Safety & Health rules and practices

·       Knowledge of Federal and Wisconsin Family Medical Leave Act

·       Knowledge of UW System Employee Benefits

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required:

·       Working knowledge of general office operations

·       Strong interpersonal and written communication skills

·       Demonstrated attention to detail

·       Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse population

·       Ability to work collaboratively with campus employees, students, other state agency personnel, insurance carriers, and the general public

·       Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities, coordinate work, meet deadlines, and event planning

·       Ability to use discretion in decision-making and function independently

·       Ability to handle information and records with discretion and maintain confidentiality

     -        Ability to interact respectfully with people with diverse socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds

     -        Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including   necessary training and drills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Benefits Coordination, Support and Liaison

1.     Serves as the subject matter expert and provides information and guidance for the Employee Assistance program.

2.     Coordinate with UW Shared Services regarding employee’s benefit plans and provisions.

3.     Manages the campus open enrollment events.

4.     Develops and delivers benefit training sessions.

5.     Represent UWW at the UW system and ETF benefit and open enrollment trainings and meetings. 

6.     Ensures compliance and provides resources for the campus Breast Feeding policy for nursing mothers and serves as the subject matter expert for both campuses.

7.     Coordinates and manages the annual Employee Benefits Fair

8.     Secure year-round vendor visits.

B. Family and Medical Leave Act

1.     Serves as the campus expert for FMLA/WFMLA.

2.     Develops and executes trainings, and disseminates information for supervisors and employees regarding FMLA/WFMLA and leave policies and procedures.

3.     Manages the UWW paid and unpaid leaves of absence activities.

4.     Create and maintain statistical data for reporting purposes.

5.     Provides supervisors and managers with tools to track leave usage.

C. Workers Compensation Support

1.     Update all lost days and restricted days on Stars Web ensuring the OSHA log is correct.  Run the Osha 300A report and distribute to the appropriate office(s).

2.     Act as liaison between insurance investigators and campus employees. 

3.     Arrange interview appointments for claims investigators.

D. Other Job-Related Duties as Assigned

1.     Assist in the planning and hosting of Employee Wellness programming

2.     Provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department

3.     Provide information and support to employees regarding the UW Whitewater Employee Wellness Initiatives.

4.     Serve on campus and UW System committees as needed
