INTRODUCTION:

The Facilities, Planning and Management Department and the College of Letters and Sciences seeks a Sustainability and Science Outreach Assistant Coordinator (Operations Program Associate).

This is a full time, project position: 50% under Facilities, Planning and Management and 50% under the College of Letters and Sciences with an anticipated duration of one year from the start date. This project position will be subject to re-evaluation at the end of next fiscal year. This position will enhance the quality, frequency, and utility of communications and events about Sustainability Office and Science Outreach and related initiatives across the university to generate awareness and share successful stories and outcomes. It will develop, improve, and maintain the administration of the Sustainability Office and Science Outreach functions and support related faculty and staff. In addition, it will assist in the development of projects to pursue a more strategic and balanced program array. This is a one-year project position which will report to the Sustainability Coordinator within Facilities, Planning and Management and to the Science Outreach Coordinator within the College of Letters and Sciences. Time for each area of responsibility will be split evenly between the Sustainability and Science Outreach Offices.

JOB DUTIES:

40%   A. Outreach and Engagement Coordination

  1. Develop and implement marketing strategies to raise awareness, increase engagement, and develop support on campus and in the community for Sustainability and Science Outreach Offices projects, events, and partnerships.
  2. Plan and execute logistical details for various events hosted by the Sustainability and Science Outreach Offices.
  3. Participate in activities planned by other campus or community organizations that provide a venue for promoting Sustainability and Science Outreach Offices projects, events, and partnerships.
  4. Coordinate volunteer recruitment and engagement efforts for appropriate programs.
  5. Track engagements and evaluate outcomes of events and communication strategies that quantify impact of programming in a variety of ways.
40%   B. Office Administration
  1. Manage incoming and outgoing communications and oversee event calendars for the Sustainability and Science Outreach offices.
  2. Coordinate staffing needs and scheduling for Sustainability and Science Outreach programs and supervise student employees engaged in related support functions.
  3. Develop training and support materials that provide guidance to the student employment positions.
  4. Oversee inventory of Sustainability and Science Outreach Office supplies and support materials.
  5. Provide additional administrative support as requested for the Sustainability Coordinator and Science Outreach Coordinator and related faculty to assist in advancing stated objectives.
20%   C. Strategic Planning and Projects
  1. Assist in developing or supporting sustainability projects or programs related to academic integration and/or operational improvements as needed.
  2. Assist in development of a sustainability plan that includes goals and performance metrics based on AASHE STARS assessment framework.
  3. Assist in research and development of new science outreach programs and best practices to improve program effectiveness and impact on student recruitment.
  4. Network with counterparts at other educational institutions, businesses, government and the community to promote collaboration and information exchange of best practices.
  5. Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  6. Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated history of superb administrative and organizational skills.
  • Experience with strategic outreach to improve event quality and attendance.
  • Experience performing best practices research and networking.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, sustainability issues and basic science-related concepts.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field (marketing, communications, environmental studies).
  • Experience working with children from various ages.
  • Experience in an academic/higher education setting.
  • Experience with graphic design concepts and programs.
  • Managerial experience with student employees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Works well independently and is capable in managing own workflow.
  • Excellent communication skills, including but not limited to: technical writing, computer skills, public speaking, and oral presentation, social media as well as the ability to work with diverse members of the university community on behalf of an organization.
  • Works well as a team member with leadership skills and experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with campus departments and organizations as well as professionals at all levels.
