INTRODUCTION:

The Department of the University Library at the University of Wisconsin -Whitewater seeks a Library Systems & Equipment Specialist (Library Services Assistant - ADV). 

JOB DUTIES:

This position provides assistance and support in the maintenance of library equipment at the Andersen and Lenox Libraries. This position also provides public services in the Access Services Department. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: maintaining lending technology, maintaining public and staff hardware as well as checking out materials and occasionally staffing the circulation desk during evening and weekend hours. The person will maintain a professional demeanor with students, faculty, and staff. Position reports to the Andersen Library Head of Systems and Automation.

Hours:

Tuesday - Saturday -- 8am –5pm (or as agreed)
Staffing will include hours at the Whitewater and Rock County campuses. Hours may vary during Exams, Intersession and Summer Session. Position may require early morning, late evening and weekend hours, as departmental needs require.

Responsibilities:

45%   A. Lending Equipment

  1. Maintain and troubleshoot lending equipment.
  2. Track and make sure circulating laptops are updated regularly.
  3. Assess and recommend when lending equipment should be repaired or replaced.
  4. In coordination with the other library staff, identify and determine new types of equipment to be added to the circulating collection.
  5. Work with Access Services and Cataloging staff in properly add and update catalog records relating to circulating equipment.
  6. Develop best practices and workflows for maintaining lending equipment.
  7. Assist with collection and analysis of data related to the lending equipment program.
  8. Keep up to date on how other academic or public libraries lend and process equipment.

30%   B. Public & Staff Equipment
  1. Assist with troubleshooting of public computers, printers and scanners.
  2. Serve as primary contact to printer service vendors.
  3. Assist with tracking and verifying repair and service tickets for public computers, printers and scanners.
  4. Monitor and maintain public and staff printing supplies.
  5. Assist with collection and analysis of data related to use of public and staff equipment.
  6. Assist with maintenance and support of library specific software.
  7. Assist with maintenance and support of staff hardware.

15%   C. Circulation Desk
  1. Circulate, renew and discharge library materials.
  2. Supervise and maintain the routine operation of circulation services with excellent customer service.
  3. Demonstrate and promote library services and assist patrons in their use.
  4. Support Andersen Library's general policies and procedures.
  5. Respond to user questions and complaints.
  6. Collect library fines.
  7. Open and close library as directed by Head of Access Services, including occasional weekend and evenings.
  8. Keep current with automation changes and assist with the testing of new software and hardware.
  9. Advise the Head of Access Services regarding updating and recommending changes·

10%   D. Miscellaneous Duties
  1. Continue to gain general knowledge and contribute to the revision of the library operation.
  2. Maintain cooperative interpersonal relationships.
  3. Participate in cross-training opportunities.
  4. Work on special projects as needed.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.
  6. Attend library and university meetings, as needed.
  7. Will be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience with Windows and Mac computers
  • Skilled with computer software
  • Knowledge of computer hardware
  • 1 year of customer service experience

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of video game technology
  • Knowledge in compiling statistics and developing reports
  • Experience working with an integrated library system

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and oral communications.
  • Ability to learn new software applications quickly
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
