INTRODUCTION:

The Department of Budget Planning & Analysis at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater seeks a Printing Assistant.

This is an internal posting for current UW-Whitewater employees. Applicants who currently are not employed by UW-Whitewater in a qualifying category (University Staff, Academic Staff, Faculty, Limited) will not be considered. JOB DUTIES:

The Graphic Artist/Print Assistant reports to the University Print Services Print Technician and assists with daily production operations and overall expansion of UW-Whitewater Print Services. Typical responsibilities include graphic art design, order taking, running print and copy machines, cutting, bindery and shipping. The position provides production, graphic art design and customer service to support UW-Whitewater faculty, staff, students and the general public.
The position will maintain the UW-Whitewater Print Services web page, including relevant links, order forms and information, and also will compile, monitor and analyze data collected from website usage and any surveys conducted.

Responsibilities:

70% A. Daily Production Operations:

  1. Set up and operate high speed production machines to produce high quality products to job/customer specifications.
  2. Graphic art design; file remediation
  3. Provide exceptional customer service, taking and fulfilling customer orders timely, accurately, and in a professional manner.
  4. Estimate print job costs from established rate charts, base price and inventory resource lists.

20% B. Maintain Print Services Webpage and Analyze Data
  1. Maintain Print Services web page, including relevant links, forms and ensure accuracy of information.
  2. Create and disseminate surveys and follow-up with compilation and analyzing of collected data from surveys and website usage.
10% C. Other Duties
  1. Train student workers on printing software, equipment, processes and procedures.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree from an accredited institution or 2 years relatable experience
  • Excellent graphic design and computer skills (Mac, HP, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Experience providing customer support in a professional setting
Desired Qualifications:
  • Graphic Artist experience; file remediation skills
  • Web design and animation training/experience
  • Experience with (print) job cost estimation: ability to determine print job costs from established rate charts, base price and inventory resource lists
  • Experience with coordinating/facilitating large projects in a complex organization
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Basic math skills
  • Professional oral and written language skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to proofread print and production copy
  • Website design and maintenance skills
  • Ability to repeatedly lift and move containers weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time unassisted
  • Ability to learn and use new software and provide technical support
  • Skilled in operating (print) machinery and ability to learn new equipment
  • Ability to operate a cash register and perform close-out procedures
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents
  • Problem resolution techniques
  • Ability to train student workers on printing software, equipment, processes and procedures
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
