INTRODUCTION:

The Department of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a Custodian.

This is an internal posting for current UW-Whitewater employees. Applicants who currently are not employed by UW-Whitewater in a qualifying category (USTE, University Staff, Academic Staff, Grad Assistant, Faculty, Limited) will not be considered. The University of Wisconsin System is engaged in a Title and Total Compensation (TTC) project to redesign job titles and compensation structures. As a result of the TTC project, your mapped job title is: Custodian (FP019). Job duties and responsibilities will remain the same. This job title will go into effect November 7, 2021. JOB DUTIES:

This position is responsible for custodial duties in assigned areas of UW-Whitewater buildings and maintaining these areas in a safe and sanitary condition. This position reports to the Custodial Services Supervisor and may work under the guidance of a Custodian Lead. All duties are to be performed in accordance with organizational beliefs and values. Regular attendance is an essential function of the job. This position is designated at Level 1 for risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. All established safety rules and regulations must be followed and personal protective equipment must be worn when performing job duties requiring their use. Will be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills. This position participates in the University Housing - Facilities Custodial overtime functions.

80%   A. Routine daily maintenance of resident buildings

  1. Clean restrooms, shower, and locker rooms and common areas.
  2. Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from buildings.
  3. Replenish supplies as necessary.
  4. Vacuum and spot-clean carpet.
  5. Sweep and/or dust mop floors.
  6. Wet mop or machine scrub floors.
  7. Clean hallways, stairwells, and drinking fountains.
  8. Maintain exterior spaces; entryways, walk off mats, ash urns and recycling centers.
  9. Wash walls, ceilings, inside windows, and entrance glass.
  10. Replace bulbs, clean light fixtures, diffusers.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
10%    B. Performance of Related Duties
  1. Clean and maintain equipment and storage areas.
  2. Report needed maintenance or repairs via work request.
  3. Move furniture, equipment, supplies, etc. as required.
  4. Inspect exterior building entrances for trash and dispose of appropriately.
  5. Provide snow removal from building entrances, surrounding sidewalks, and recycling areas. Salt areas as needed.
  6. Strip and refinish floor surfaces as needed.
  7. Shampoo all carpeted areas and clean entry mats.
  8. Drive University vehicles if authorized.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
10%    C. Team Participation
  1. Function as member of a team in special custodial projects.
  2. Function as a team member in problem solving for custodial and other areas.
  3. Assist other department/employees as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of required application materials

  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, staff, and students
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Independently organize and prioritize workload
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods
  • Knowledge of cleaning solutions and agents
  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. correctly and safely
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to disinfectants, cleaning solutions, dust, odors, extreme temperatures, noise, heights, and slippery surfaces
  • Ability to climb step ladder and stairs
