INTRODUCTION:

The Department of University Health and Counseling Services at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a Consulting Psychiatrist (Professional Consultant).  

This is a contracted position for up to 8hrs/week. We can be flexible with the day. We would like someone that has the ability to come to campus to do in-person appointments but open to occasional virtual appointments. Please inquire if you should have questions.
JOB DUTIES:

Position summary:

This is a limited term position aimed at providing specialty psychiatry consultation services to the medical, nurse practitioner, and counseling staff at UHCS. The Consulting Psychiatrist must have completed a board-eligible residency program in psychiatry. Board certification in psychiatry is strongly preferred. The Consulting Psychiatrist must be able to work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, and counselor at UHCS, overseeing medications management in more complex cases and assisting with rendering a differential diagnosis.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide psychiatric evaluation for students referred by MD, NP, or Counseling staff.
  • Provide consultation with these staff, providing third-party assistance in achieving differential diagnostics that enable correct treatment of the patient.
  • Participate as member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Provide individual clinical consultation with physicians, nurse practitioners, and physicians.
  • Provide consultation services to faculty, students, and staff regarding mental health issues.
  • Maintain license/certification required by discipline.
  • Participate in periodic staff meetings to which UHCS personnel present their more complex and challenging cases.
  • Ethical practice is to be guided by the code of ethics of the American Psychiatric Association.
  • Provide consultation in other areas as requested by the Director for Counseling, Medical Supervisor, or Director for Health Services


Supervision received:

This is an independent practice position not calling for direct or indirect supervision. The Consulting Psychiatrist must agree to participate in a psychiatric peer review process as required by accreditation.

Supervision exercised:

Management of medications for persons whose condition requires new, less known medications or combinations of standard medications. Participates with other clinical staff in peer review and peer consultation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Completion of a full residency program in general psychiatry.
  • Must be board certified or board eligible and have at least one year experience following completion of residency.
  • Current Wisconsin license/certification as a physician/psychiatrist is required.
  • The consultant must possess well-developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and have the ability to relate to a diverse university community.

Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
