INTRODUCTION:
The University Center at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a UC Facilities Technician ( Facilities Technician 2, FP030 ).
JOB DUTIES:
This position is responsible for maintenance of the University Center, Drumlin and Esker Dining Halls and the Moraine Bookstore. Duties include all non-mechanical maintenance as outlined in goals and worker activities. This position is under the direct supervision of the UC Facility Services Supervisor. This position is classified at level 2 for risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens. Normal shift is Monday-Friday 8a.m.-4:00 p.m.
75 % General Preventative, corrective, and response maintenance within assigned buildings.
· Perform carpentry and wood working duties as required to maintain furniture, equipment, and fabrication needs.
· Repair or replace flooring as needed. This includes vinyl tile, ceramic, and wood floors including base.
· Repair and maintain all shop equipment required for use.
· Perform all services necessary to install fixtures, artwork and signage as required.
· Order and maintain supply level of materials and tools to meet shop needs.
· Perform maintenance on building exteriors, (i.e., broken brick, seal openings, tuck point mortar joints, install glass and other items which require repair, etc.).
· Maintain doors and door hardware, dulls, hold opens, crash bars, closers, stops, and frames as required. This includes installation of new wood or metal doors and hinges.
· Assist, as required, other personnel or trades as directed or as mission needs dictate.
· Install new ceiling grid and tile as required.
· Repair wallpaper, carpet hanging, and plastic wall cover as required. This includes corner guards.
· Daily supervision of student work crew.
· Maintain all garden areas of assigned buildings.
· Snow removal of assigned buildings.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
15 % Project Work
· Layout and construct walls/partitions as necessary.
· Install and finish dry wall including taping, finishing and painting.
· Construct fences/ barriers as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
10% Administrative
· Estimate materials need for projects/ repairs.
· Maintain state issued credit cards per campus/ department policies.
· Complete paperwork properly and in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
· H.S. Diploma - Preferred
· Two years relatable experience in construction, repair, assembly or maintenance of facilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
- Ability to communicate effectively with campus stakeholders.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to demonstrate an acceptable degree of skill in the areas listed above.
- Ability to maintain a safe/ organized work environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, the general public, contractors, and UC-Whitewater staff.
- Ability to climb ladders and work above head and shoulders.
- Ability to lift, carry 50 pounds.
- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Desired:
- Landscape maintenance experience.
- Commercial painting experience.
- Grounds equipment operation/ maintenance experience.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $37,000 - $44,750.
