This is an application for returning students to fill out if they would like to apply to live in Starin Hall, On-Campus Apartments, or Triple Rooms for the 2018-2019 academic year.
*By filling out a Universal Housing Application, it is not guaranteed that you will be approved to live in any of the listed living options*
I. Beginning February 5, the housing contract will open for students to apply for on-campus housing next year. By printing out the Deposit Form, signing it, and turning it into the Goodhue Front Desk, you are agreeing to live on-campus for the 2018-2019 academic year.
*Without this form turned in, your group will NOT be able to select a room!
II. On February 12, the Universal Housing Application will be available on Student Portal.
III. On Student Portal in the column on the left side of the page, listed in alphabetical order you will be able to select a link named “Universal Housing Application”
IV. Read all of the terms and conditions before continuing to the rest of the application!
V. In the application make sure you ONLY rank the living option(s) that you would actually prefer to live in. (Example, if you only want to live in Starin Hall, pick Starin Hall as your 1st preferred living option and do NOT select any other living options)
VI. The application will ask your group for a group leader. This person will need to select the room for your entire group.
VII. Make sure to put all of your group member’s information on the application.
i. If a student does not live on-campus but is a current student at UW-Whitewater then type in the box named “Current Residence Hall” put “Off-campus.” If a student is transferring to UW-Whitewater next year, please type in the box named “Current Residence Hall” put “Transfer Student”
VIII. Print off the completed application, have ALL 4 group members (or all 3 members if you are only applying for a triple room) sign the application, and turned in before February 21.
i. If you are signing up as a Partial Application (meaning that the application you signed up on does NOT fill an entire room in your preferred living option that you are signing up for.) then the Universal Housing Application will be due on Friday, February 16 at 4:00 p.m.
IX. DONE! Please wait for an email from University Housing stating whether your application has been approved or denied for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Applications are granted based on a point system; meaning that the more points a group has, the more likely they will receive their 1st preference. Below will describe how points are given:
I. First, we give students points based on how long they have lived in the halls. This means that if a student is currently a freshman, they will receive 2 points, if a student is currently a sophomore they will receive 4 points, etc.
II. Next, we give students points based on how many credits they have earned. This means all past semester’s credits AND this current semester’s worth of credits. For example, if a student has received a total of 15 credits so far and is currently taking 15 credits this semester then we will give that student 30 points.
III. University grants 30 “squatters’ points” towards current Starin Hall residents. If a student does not live in Starin Hall, they will not receive those points.
IV. We will do this for each student listed on the application and then all of the student’s totals together to get the final amount of points for the Universal Housing Application.
V. If there is a tie between points then we will look at the dates the applications were turned in and put them in order based on who turned their application earlier.
VI. At the end, we order all of the applications based on how many points they receive and the applications with the highest points will be granted their most preferred living option
VII. Additionally, the group with the most points will be given the earliest time slot to select their room.
*University Housing can only grant a limited amount of applications their preferences, therefore, just because your group may have “a lot” of points, it doesn’t guarantee that you will receive your most preferred living option.
