The English Language Academy (ELA) at the UW-Whitewater prepares international students for academic and career success in English through innovative teaching and out-of-the-classroom activities.
ELA staff knows that students want to learn English as quickly as possible. The ELA offers four levels of English instruction: beginner, intermediate 1, intermediate 2, and advanced. Students take a placement test upon arrival to ensure appropriate placement.
ELA students receive support in small group study sessions and from knowledgeable student teachers. At the bridge level, ELA students are enrolled in several English classes that qualify for UW-Whitewater credit. This makes it easy for ELA students to transition into a degree program at UW-Whitewater.
ELA English instructors have advanced degrees and years of experience teaching English to international students. They take their responsibilities as instructors seriously and provide relevant, engaging coursework and homework that enables students to become increasingly skillful in their usage of English in and out of the classroom.
