Annual ceramics and jewelry sale set for Dec. 9 - 11

December 06, 2013

ceramicsHoliday gift ideas abound at UW-Whitewater's annual ceramics and jewelry sale, Dec. 9 -11 in the atrium of the Greenhill Center of the Arts.

The event is sponsored by the Ceramics Club and Alloy - two student organizations within the Department of Art and Design.

The sale runs Monday, Dec. 9, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

"We feel that providing folks on campus and in the region with an alternative to the 'standard fare' of commercially available gifts for the holidays is a good thing," said Jared Janovec, associate professor of art.

Many of the items at this year's sale are locally produced, hand-made pieces of artwork that are functional and decorative.

"Customers can walk away with one-of-a-kind works of art that are of noteworthy quality, whether they be for their own use, or as gifts for family and friends," Janovec said.

Funds raised help bring in visiting artists; help pay for students to attend conferences and participate in out-of-classroom learning experiences; and help purchase various materials and tools.
