MAGD Expo: A Walk Through the Interactive World of Entertainment

May 04, 2015

Have you ever been curious about 2-D or 3-D design and animation? Do you love video games? Visit the UW-Whitewater Media Arts and Game Department Expo on Thursday, May 7, in Young Auditorium and explore some new designs and meet one-on-one with their student creators. All students, faculty and the general public are welcome.

"The Expo itself is a juried show of interactive entertainment, 2-D, 3-D, aural, virtual, and animated work. Primarily, it consists of our students, showing and sharing their work with one another, the judges and the public," said Jeff Herriott, program coordinator and chair of MAGD Expo event committee.

This annual event kicks off with a panel from 3 to 3:45 p.m. on "Getting a job in the industry." The Expo will then take place from 4 to 7 p.m. During this time, attendees can explore the designs and projects that the students have been preparing for presentation. Spectators are also welcome to play games, listen to music and interact with these presentations. Judges will be walking around during this time, discussing the presentations with the students and assessing their work.

"For the students, their preparation is to just create this work. This is by far the most preparation involved -- hours and hours of work, testing, etc.," said Herriott.

The event will be capped with a keynote presentation by Dan Norton, chief creative director and founding partner of Filament Games. Students will have an opportunity to hear about opportunities and learn more about the industry.

"This event offers students the opportunity to share their work and get feedback, as well as have a chance to hear from experts in the industry and receiver feedback," said Herriott. "For faculty, it's a target for students and an opportunity to see and experience work being created across the curriculum."
