The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater invites the campus community to celebrate the life of Mary Beth Mackin, dean of students.
The memorial begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Timmerman Auditorium in Timothy J. Hyland Hall. A reception in the atrium will immediately follow. Those who wish to leave cards and notes for her family can do so at the event.
Everyone is encouraged to wear purple on Wednesday in honor of Mary Beth. The campus flag will fly at half-staff until Thursday evening.
Mary Beth, who was 57 years old, passed away Saturday of natural causes at her home in Milton. She leaves behind her partner of nearly 14 years, Susan Read, and their dogs Zoe and Moses, and many family members and friends.
Mary Beth grew up in South Bend, Indiana, where she attended St. Joseph's High School. She earned a B.A. in special education at Ball State University and her M.A. in higher education at the University of Southern California.
She came to UW-Whitewater in 1988 and worked as assistant director of residence life, assistant dean of students and most recently as dean of students.
A visitation will be held at Albrecht Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 828 Janesville Street, Milton, on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. At 6 p.m. there will be an open mic opportunity for anyone who would like to share memories.
