Campus Kudos
|
|
Kudos to Luzma Ede-Hernandez, assistant professor in the Department of Languages and Literatures, who is among scholars collaborating in a comprehensive project that was awarded a $2.9 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Just Futures Initiative. Ede-Hernandez, who teaches Spanish and advises the Spanish Club at UW-Whitewater, said her team focuses on how testing and curricula are marginalizing Latinx language varieties. The research challenges institutions to inclusively reflect these varieties in their pedagogy. The larger project, "Latinx Futures: The Civil, Cultural, and Political Stakes for Southern California Latinx Communities,” is led by the new Center for Latino and Latin American Studies at the University of California, Riverside, which will receive the grant. Scholars from the U.S., Mexico and England are contributing to the project.
