Global Experiences Fair
The spring 2021 Virtual Global Experiences Fair is live now and runs through Saturday, May 1. Students have the opportunity to learn about hundreds of opportunities in more than 50 countries. Programs vary in length from a week to a year. There are virtual, travel study, internships and service learning programs as well. Students will also learn about funding options such as scholarships, grants and financial aid.

Jim Mead, director of UWW-TV, creates a real-world lab for students. He puts them behind cameras, in front of cameras, in the control room and into the community to bring back stories to broadcast. Deadlines matter, results are expected — and Mead’s students deliver.

Provost finalists named
Chancellor Dwight C. Watson announced five finalists for the position of provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. The candidates will visit the university and participate in public forums, offering opportunities for faculty, staff, students and community members to learn about and interact with the finalists. More information on the format and the specific dates and times of the forums — as well as the mechanism for providing feedback on the candidates — will be shared soon.

Schedule your COVID-19 testing
Safety continues to be our top priority, and testing is something we all can do. Please continue to follow the principles outlined in the Warhawk Social Covenant. Free nasal swab testing is offered in the Hamilton Room of the University Center on our Whitewater campus and at Hyatt Smith Health Clinic Office on the Rock County campus. An appointment is required. Please remember to bring your HawkCard.

Women’s History Month Program: Women in Leadership
The Women’s Issues Committee will recognize the contributions of 11 Women in Leadership honorees at the annual Women’s History Month Program at 4 p.m. Thursday, March, 11 via Webex.
This is the 16th in a series of annual receptions honoring women in leadership positions on the UW-Whitewater campuses. Each year, the “Women in Leadership” program highlights women in different kinds of leadership roles. This year's featured speaker will be Pilar Melero, professor of languages and literatures and program coordinator for race and ethnic studies.
Everyone is welcome to join and to show their appreciation for the Women in Leadership honorees!

Kudos to Jodi Simek, international students and scholar services coordinator, for a series she created to train staff from the offices on campus who contribute to international student success. Simek received an honorable mention for best practices from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for her International Education Alliance Workshop Series. Among the campus partners who work with international students at UW-Whitewater are the offices of International Students and Scholars, Admissions, LEARN Center, Global Experiences, Human Resources, English Language Academy, and Enrollment and Retention.
Kudos to Lei Xu, assistant professor in strategic management and entrepreneurship, who is the lead author with co-authors Juan Ling (Georgia College and State University) and Haemin Dennis Park (University of Texas at Dallas) of a new article in the Journal of Small Business Management entitled "Founding team homogeneity and network positioning: The moderating role of environmental and organizational factors.”

The 2021 Cisco/Presidio Teaching with Technology Honorarium is a recognition that will be awarded to an instructor who displays an outstanding commitment to leveraging learning technologies to solve common teaching challenges and increase student success. Finalists for this award need to be willing to present an interactive virtual session at the Celebration of Teaching and Learning on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Applications are due by Friday, March 5.

If you've had COVID-19, are feeling the stigma or want to connect with other survivors, consider joining this new support group. Starting Monday, March 8, 1:30-3 p.m., via Webex, hospitalized and non-hospitalized survivors are welcome to discuss and share their experience with others.

Cupcakes have been a longtime tradition at the annual gala Studio 84, which was founded by Deborah Blackwell '08, and 2021 will be no different. A springtime cupcake battle will be part of the fun! Since spring is a time of new growth and renewal, the theme is "Re-leaf." Entry deadline is Friday, April 2.
