Conquering Mindset: Scientist takes on an Olympic challenge
When she got to UW-Whitewater, chemistry major Robin Witt found that her love of biochemistry and weightlifting combined to help her achieve her academic and personal goals. The Deerfield, Wisconsin, native is working with chemistry professor Christopher Veldkamp on a research project whose findings, “Structural Insights into Molecular Recognition by Human Chemokine,” were published as in the journal Biochemistry. As a competitive weightlifter, Robin is competing in the Arnold Classic — the university nationals — and hopes to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Women’s Basketball to host NCAA Sectional
The Warhawk women's basketball team will host the third and fourth rounds of the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship March 11-12 at Kachel Gymnasium. On Friday, Baldwin Wallace plays UW-Oshkosh at 5 p.m., and UW-Whitewater plays Smith at 7:30 p.m. The winners play at 7 p.m. Saturday.

International Education Week
Happy International Education Week! Help us celebrate the benefits of cultural and academic exchange programs throughout UW-Whitewater. There will be several events this week, including:
- Black Alumni and Abroad, which will provide an opportunity for students to connect with Black alumni and learn about their global experiences, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the University Center, room 275.
- At 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, John Eason, associate lecturer of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Alberta, will share the cultural and sociological context of ABBA as an international music phenomenon as well as its iconic status within the gay community. A virtual reception will follow at 6:30 p.m.
- The 40th International Dinner will take place at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, in the Hamilton Room. Tickets are currently available for purchase in Goodhue. All are welcome, and cultural attire is encouraged! Contact Naomi Fultang Mirjam at FultangMNA19@uww.edu for more information.

Kudos to the Forensics Team for winning 25 awards across four tournaments last week! Congratulations to Abby Frey, a sophomore theatre major from Madison, who was the Online Asynchronous Tournament Series tournament champion in prose, besting 41 other entries in the event. Congratulations as well to Kolden Severson, a junior elementary education major from Janesville, who was the Mid-America Forensics League 7 communication analysis tournament champion.
Kudos to Jodi B. Simek, international education manager, who will be presenting "CPT: A Friday Afternoon Fireside Chat" for the Wisconsin Association of International Educators with Kevin Beisser of UW-Milwaukee on Friday, March 25.
Kudos to the UW-Whitewater chapter of Active Minds, which hosted an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention over the weekend. According to the website, more than $11,200 was raised. Active Minds is a student organization dedicated to creating awareness and fostering positive mental health for students. Read more »

DanceScapes ’22 returns to live audiences March 12 in Barnett Theatre. An annual audience favorite, this concert features works from UW-Whitewater faculty members, award-winning guest artist Li Chiao Ping, student choreographers Kayley Stoner and Teresa Krogmann, and — for the very first time — a piece choreographed and performed by alumni.

The Chamber Singers will present the world premiere of “Wind Rising in the Alleys” by Christian Ellenwood, professor of music, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, in Light Recital Hall. Ellenwood's music, based on a poem by the early twentieth-century Irish-American poet and social activist Lola Ridge, is at turns lyrical, anguished and empowering.

Summer Session registration opens to Warhawks March 7
Did you know that students who take special sessions like Summer Session and its winter companion, Winterim, are more than 20% more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree in four years? Summer sessions, which are approximately 3 weeks, offer a combination of online, on-campus, and hybrid courses. Students can take up to four credits over the course of a summer, one three-credit course at a time. Registration opens to UW-Whitewater students on March 7.

The UW-Whitewater Forensics Team will be hosting their annual team showcase at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in Summers Auditorium. Come watch performances from the nationally competitive UW-Whitewater speech and dramatic performance team. The event is free and open to the public, and seating is first-come, first-served.
