Final Four-bound!
The women's basketball team clinched the program's fourth trip to the Final Four since 2008 with a 68-62 victory against UW-Oshkosh Saturday night. The Warhawks will take on Amherst (Massachusetts) in the national semifinals at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Wrestling’s Jaritt Shinhoster claims National Championship
Congratulations to wrestling team member Jaritt Shinhoster, a general management major, for earning the program's seventh individual national title! Shinhoster won the 184-pound bracket at the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships Saturday at Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Kudos to Alexis Piper, lecturer of languages and literatures, Rossitza Ivanova, associate professor of languages and literatures, Dana Prodoehl, associate professor of languages and literatures, and Trudi Witonsky, associate professor of languages and literatures, for their panel presentation “Equity and Inclusion Even in Times of Crises: Using Kairotic Pedagogy and Transformative Hospitality to Increase Access to Crucial First-Year Writing Skills" at the 2022 Conference on College Composition & Communication.

Amanda Eaton, a sophomore general management major from Janesville, will represent Wisconsin in the top forensics tournament in the nation next month at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Eaton is the fourth Warhawk in the last seven years to participate at the Interstate Oratorical Association Nationals, which selects two students from each state.

Sarah Treadwell, a graduate student in communication, recently spent 13 days climbing the unforgiving trail up to the first base camp of Mount Everest in Nepal. Treadwell, a mother of two who has a passion for new adventures, wanted to show her daughter that “her mom can do anything and that she doesn’t need to fear because it’s also okay to fail.”

Shalea Carter, a political science major, presented her work to state lawmakers and community leaders at the 18th annual Research at the Rotunda. This platform gave Carter the opportunity to raise awareness about police brutality.

Stephen Levas, assistant professor of geography, geology, environmental science and biology, is a co-author on the longest experimental study on corals to date — a study of Hawaiian corals that replicates current and future ocean conditions. Coral reefs are found in less than one percent of the ocean but are home to nearly one-quarter of all known marine species.

Trumpet Studio: Winds of Change
The Trumpet Studio will present their studio recital featuring “Winds of Change,” a collection of 12 new works for trumpet and piano written by marginalized and underrepresented composers, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, in Light Recital Hall. “Winds of Change” was published by Diversify The Stand, and UW-Whitewater is the first university to perform the work in its entirety.

The Vent Faculty Woodwind Trio will perform a wide variety of music — from J.S. Bach to Chinese-born American composer Lei Liang — at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, in Light Recital Hall. The program will include a premiere of a new work by Christian Ellenwood and MyungHee Chung, piano.

We are excited to announce the first annual Community-Based Learning Awards! The Program for CBL is soliciting nominations for three new awards, which will be presented at the April 2022 CBL Breakfast:
- Exemplary CBL Practitioner (Faculty or Staff) for 2021-2022
- Exemplary CBL Community Partner for 2021-2022
- Exemplary CBL Student for 2021-2022
Please nominate yourself, your colleagues, your community partners, or your students with a one-page letter that includes a description of the CBL project and why it is exemplary. You may submit multiple nominations.
