Women’s Basketball finishes as national runner-up
 
Congratulations to Women’s Basketball for finishing second place in the nation! Their season finished with a well-fought loss to Hope (Michigan) in the national title game of the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Warhawks conclude the 2021-22 season with a 28-5 record, good for the second-most wins in program history.

Warhawk Business Plan Competition
 
The Warhawk Business Plan Competition allows students the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills to help them succeed in business. The competition is a live event with judges, some of whom are angel investors (just like Shark Tank!) The contest is open to students of all majors. There are two stages of the competition, with prizes awarded to first, second and third place:
  • Stage 1: Full business plan and video, due 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 13
  • Stage 2: Warhawk Business Plan Competition - Pitch from 5:15-7:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 27

Kudos to Talen Jourdan, a business education major from Deerfield, who qualified along with the U23 USA Men's National wheelchair basketball team for the U23 World championships that will take place in Thailand this fall. Read more »

Kudos to Alexa Nelson for winning the bronze medal for her package design in the national Innovation Center for Design Excellence competition. Her project was to create an energy drink brand, logo and label design that conveyed a sense of power and energy. Nelson is a senior pursuing her B.A. in art. Read more »

Kudos to Keri Carollo, head coach of Warhawk Women’s Basketball, and forward Aleah Grundahl, elementary education major, for being honored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for their performances during the 2021-22 season. Coach Carollo has been named a finalist for the NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year and Grundahl has earned an honorable mention All-American from the organization. Read more »

Kudos to Piper Morgan Hayes-Werner, lecturer and dance choreographer, and dancers Bekah Gruener, CJ Kaegi, Nicole Kuhnz, Kelli Polnow, and Dalon Williams for their selection into the final Gala concert at the American College Dance Association conference. The piece was selected in the top ten out of 34 works. Out of 20 universities, all but two, including UW-Whitewater, have dance major programs.

If Wisconsin meets its goal of transitioning to 100% clean energy over the next 30 years, it could grow the state’s economy by $21 billion and create more than 34,000 jobs, according to a new study by the Midwest Economic Policy Institute and UW-Whitewater’s Fiscal and Economic Research Center, where Russ Kashian, serves as director.

Psychology students Alexa Crary and Casey Fleischmann participate in Active Minds, a UW-Whitewater student organization whose chapter was recently honored as the best among 600 nationwide. In recognizing the Warhawk chapter, the national organization said, “Active Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has been working to deeply engrain mental health awareness, advocacy, and education into the fabric of their school community. They have successfully amplified the conversation around mental health with many programs and outreach events.”

The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library is introducing “What Should I Read Next?” — a personalized reading recommendation service. Interested parties fill out a form on whitewaterlibrary.org and a librarian reviews the submission and provides several tailored reading recommendations. There are forms for adults, teens, and children. This service is free and open to the public.
