UW-Whitewater at Rock County announces the Studer Family Scholarship
Thanks to a generous donation from the Studer Family Foundation, UW-Whitewater’s Rock County campus is offering 10 full-ride scholarships to Rock County high school students who will be graduating in May 2022. This opportunity is designed specifically for students who consider affordability the main barrier to going to college.

UW System Symposium this Friday
UW-Whitewater is excited to host the 20th annual UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity on Friday, April 22. This event showcases undergraduate creativity, achievement, research, service-learning and community-based research from all over the state of Wisconsin in all areas of study, including the humanities, fine arts, biological sciences, physical sciences, and social sciences. This all-day event will be in various locations across campus.

Kudos to the Warhawk Men’s Soccer Head Coach Tony Guinn for being named the 2021-2022 recipient of the Whitewater Student Government Best Professor/Instructor at Helping Students Outside the Field award! In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Guinn also serves as a lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology.
Kudos to Jennifer Betters-Bubon, associate professor in the Department of Counselor Education, who recently published “Antiracism Starts With Us: School Counselor Critical Reflection Within a Multi-tiered Systems of Support Framework” in the Evidence Based School Counseling special issue of the Professional School Counselor Journal.

Kudos to Katie Childs, English major, who won a scholarship through the New York State Summer Writers' Institute at Skidmore College. Katie, who is one of 50 students from around the country to receive this award out of nearly 300 applicants, will spend two weeks at Skidmore this summer, studying fiction with marquee writers.
Kudos to Ted Witt, teaching, learning and technology consultant in ICIT, for serving on an expert panel contributing to the "2022 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report, Teaching and Learning Edition." The 2022 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report is based on the perspectives and expertise of 57 higher education experts from around the globe. The report profiles the trends and key technologies and practices shaping the future of teaching.

Kudos to Luzma Ede-Herndandez, assistant professor of languages and literatures, who advised and helped students coordinate a collaborative effort on hosting a session on campus about Mayan Americans living in Wisconsin, in an initiative with the Consulate of Mexico in Milwaukee. Student groups were led by Spanish major Montserrat Cuevas.

New Employees/New Roles
Katy Casey, who serves as the director of academic assessment, has been appointed as the interim chief of Institutional Research and Planning by Interim Chancellor John Chenoweth. She began the position on April 1, 2022. Katy, who will continue her role as director of academic assessment, has been at UW-Whitewater for 12 years. Let’s congratulate her on her new role!

The Sonict Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, and celebrate music by recently lost giants of the new music community, including George Crumb, Mario Lavista, and Alvin Lucier. Guest artist Trevor Saint, an alumnus, will join us to perform a recent commission and Lucier’s iconic piece, “I Am Sitting in a Room.” Other performers include students, Cristina Ballatori, Tobie Wilkinson, and Matt Sintchak.

Yoga in Roberta’s Art Gallery
UC Live and Roberta's Art Gallery are hosting a free immersive art and yoga experience at 10 and 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23. Beginners are welcome, and mats are provided. These sessions will be instructed by a licensed yoga instructor and all participants will leave with a free 24/7 access pass to the Milton or Janesville YMCA and a free take-home item sponsored by UHCS. The College Republicans will be hosting Kellyanne Conway at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in Hyland Hall. In 2016, Conway rose to notoriety after managing President Trump’s historic, come-from-behind victory, becoming the first woman to win a presidential campaign.
