If you are graduating in December 2022 and have landed a job, earned admission to graduate school or started a company before commencement, join us to continue this tradition by having your photo taken professionally and posted to our Hired Before Graduation social media campaign. Sessions are 7 a.m.-noon on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Ballroom B (275) in the University Center. Career Services and the campus food pantry are teaming up for Warhawks Donate, a drive collecting donations Monday, Nov. 28, through Friday, Dec. 2. Celebrate the sounds of the season with the Gala Holiday Concert on Dec. 3 in Young Auditorium. Pre-concert ensembles begin at 6:45 p.m. in various locations around the Greenhill Center of the Arts and Young Auditorium. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Young Auditorium. This event features nearly every student ensemble in the Department of Music, and all proceeds go towards the Music Scholarship Fund.

The distant universe with the James Webb Space Telescope
 
This observatory lecture series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in Upham Hall 141, will explain what the James Webb Space Telescope is and why it is such an engineering marvel. Further explanation of the scientific implications of the first images that were released in July 2022 will be offered, in addition to images that give a taste for the kinds of science being done with JWST in the years to come. Telescopes will be open at the Whitewater Observatory after the talk (weather permitting).

Pop-up science exhibit
 

“Searching for Earth’s Secrets,” an interactive, educational exhibit, is coming to the Community Engagement Center Dec. 12 through Feb. 28. This outreach project, brought to campus by graduate student Sarah Treadwell, is a part of the International Ocean Discovery Project. This research impacts our understanding of climate change, the origin of life and plate tectonics. Baseball clinics teach the proper fundamentals of pitching, hitting, catching and fielding and stress the importance of attitude, confidence and dedication in order to give all attendees an opportunity to succeed in baseball and life. Jay Craggs has been appointed as director of Young Auditorium, effective Dec. 5. Jay has served the university for more than 25 years and in numerous capacities, including assistant director for facilities, University Center; technical director, Young Auditorium; and as a music and communication instructor. “We look forward to benefiting from his depth of experience in the arts and entertainment industry as well as his business acumen as he joins the hardworking and dedicated staff of the Young Auditorium,” said Eileen Hayes, dean of the College of Arts and Communication. Craggs holds an M.A. in arts, entertainment and management from Columbia College and a B.M. in music education from UW-Whitewater. As a performing artist (electric guitar/vocals), he has numerous awards and albums to his credit.
