The art of the pitch — and pitching art

Emma Siskoff, an art major from New Berlin, said creativity is her first and foremost passion as she pursues her options after graduation. But a secondary passion in entrepreneurship blossomed in October when Siskoff was a winner in the Self-Employment in the Arts — or SEA — pitch contest, held in conjunction with the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, or CEO.

Campus Kudos

A correction from last week’s issue. Kudos to Carl Fox, chief research administration officer, and Tim Carone, lecturer in IT and supply chain management, who served on a panel at the Wisconsin AI Summit last week in Milwaukee. The summit brought together state, federal and military experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Kudos to Matthew Kiederlen, chief of police, who was named chair of the FBI National Use-of-Force Data Collection committee. The group is leading the effort to collect information about incidents in which force is used by a law enforcement officer that results in the death or serious bodily injury of a person, or when a law enforcement officer discharges a firearm at or in the direction of a person. Officials hope that robust and comprehensive data will increase transparency and lead to discussions about better policing, protecting and peacekeeping. Read more »

Kudos to Zaifeng “Steve” Fan, associate professor of finance and business law, for publishing "Volatility in US dairy futures markets" in the Journal of Commodity Markets, a peer-reviewed journal. Read more »

Kudos to Eric Loepp, associate professor of politics, government, and law and director of learning technology, and Nicole Weber, assistant professor of educational foundations, for their contributions to “Teaching, Learning, Equity and Change: Realizing the Promise of Professional Learning.” This national report provides recommendations to campuses to enhance their professional learning efforts. Learn how to keep yourself and others safe

A reminder that University Police conduct numerous programs throughout the academic year on a variety of life safety and crime prevention topics. These include “run, hide, fight” active killer scenario training, theft prevention, identity theft, internet scams, drug and narcotics, “date rape” drugs, and many others. These programs can be requested as needed with flexible scheduling for your student org or your department, days or nights, weekdays or weekends. Contact us at police@uww.edu or call 262-472-4660 to schedule.

We’re committed to informing you about campus security procedures and practices, and encourage you to be responsible for your own safety and to keep other members of our Warhawk family safe as well.

We’re here to help.
