UW-Whitewater Wheelchair Athletics brings in the New Year by welcoming Laura Vacek to the program in the fall of 2015! Laura comes to us from Waterford, Wisconsin and plays juniors for the Milwaukee Heat.

What excites you the most about coming to Whitewater?
What excites me most about coming to Whitewater is the chance of meeting new people and becoming really close to my new teammates.
What is your Major?
Currently I am undecided, but I would love to do something in the medical field with kids. I know for sure my minor will be business.
Is there anything else you hope to get in involved in while being at UW-Whitewater?
I would love to get a part time job at a cafe. I’ve always wanted to work in a coffee shop!
What adjustment will you have to make as a player and a student?
Some adjustments I will have to make as a player and student is that I will have to get used to playing at a college level verses juniors. I’m going to have to manage my time more wisely, and be prepared to be busy nonstop.
What do you think you can bring to the team?
What I think I can bring to the team is that I am not am individual player, that I will always be a team player, and that I love to compete as a team, but would love to have fun.
What will you miss the most about juniors?
What I will miss about juniors is all of my friends that I have made over the past couple of years. I will miss my old coach, and all the team support. But am looking forward to all the new friends I will make.
What was you most memorable time or greatest success while playing juniors?
My most memorable time and great success as of right now is receiving the "Academic All-American" award at Nationals last year.
Why did you choose Whitewater?
I chose Whitewater because I liked the direction the program was going, I liked the team, as well as the coaches, and just the environment overall.
