Dr. Ozalle Toms joined the Warhawk family in 2012 as a faculty member in the college of education and professional studies. She earned her doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her areas of interest are teacher preparation, campus climate and culturally responsive instruction. She was a high school special education teacher for 8 years supporting students with learning disabilities, behavior disorders and intellectual disabilities.

Dr. Toms has served as Assistant Vice Chancellor since June 2019. At UW-Whitewater she is actively involved in initiatives relating to supporting university students who have aged out of foster care and faculty perceptions of mentoring as it relates to underrepresented and first generation college students. 

Dr. Toms has conducted trainings at the campus, state, national and international levels on Microaggressions, Civil Discourse, White Privilege and Reducing Unconscious Bias in the Hiring Process. Her current research is on "Perceptions of Culture of the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater" and "Assessing Dispositional Skills of Pre-service Teachers" She is very active in supporting the local school district and university campus. She is honored to serve her campus as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Diversity, Engagement and Success.
